Earlobe keloids are a challenging management problem. These benign, fibrous proliferations develop in predisposed persons at sites of cutaneous injury or as the result of ear piercing, burns or surgical procedures. Earlobe keloids usually appear as shiny, smooth, globular growths on one or both sides of the earlobe. Patients frequently complain of cosmetic embarrassment, but also may report pruritus, pain or paresthesias. No single therapeutic modality is best. The authors present an unusual case of median facial cleft in an infant with prolabiumlike soft-tissue excess between the cleft elements. This tissue was used to augment the nasal tip and lip tubercle. Fibroblasts isolated from long-lived hypopituitary dwarf mice are resistant to many cell stresses, including ultraviolet (UV) light and meth … erived cells. We have also found that cells from dwarf mice express higher levels of the nucleotide excision repair proteins XPC and CSA, suggesting a causal link to enhanced DNA repair. Overall, these data suggest a mechanism for the UV resistance of Snell dwarf-derived fibroblasts that could contribute to the delay of aging and neoplasia in these mice.
