Mechanistic insights and in vivo efficacy of thiosemicarbazones against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Staphylococcus aureus poses a significant threat in both community and hospital settings due to its infective and pathogenic nature combined with its ability to resist the action of chemotherapeutic agents. Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) represents a critical challenge. Metal-chelating thiosemicarbazones (TSCs) have shown promise in combating MRSA and while previous studies hinted at the antimicrobial potential of TSCs, their mechanisms of action against MRSA are still under investigation. We screened a chemical library for anti-staphylococcal compounds and identified a potent molecule

Safe Penicillin Allergy Delabeling in Primary Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ten percent of the population is labeled as allergic to penicillin(s), when in fact 90% of these labels are inappropriate. Recent studies have shown that inpatient delabeling by a direct drug challenge (dDC) is safe in low-risk patients. However, there is a need for outpatient and nonallergist delabeling. OBJECTIVE: To assess the safety of delabeling low-risk adults by means of dDC in primary care. METHODS: We searched the MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases from inception to March 15, 2022 (updated June 5, 2023) for studies performing dDC in adults in primary care or

Pre-procedural Topical Antisepsis in the Neonate: A Systematic Review Evaluating Risk Factors for Skin Injury.

BACKGROUND: Pre-procedural antisepsis is a critical component of hospital-acquired infection prevention in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). However, broadly utilized topical antiseptic agents pose an elevated risk of disruption to neonatal skin integrity, and evidence-based guidelines are lacking. This systematic review of the literature sought to assess and characterize the predisposing risk factors for and types of neonatal skin injury from topical antiseptic agents. METHODS: A systematic search of Medline Ovid, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library was conducted, inc

Ultrasound-guided puncture drainage versus surgical incision drainage for deep neck space abscesses: a protocol for a systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Deep neck space abscesses (DNAs) are serious surgical emergencies, associated with life-threatening complications. Surgical incision and drainage combined with antibiotics is the main treatment for DNAs, but drawbacks still exist. Ultrasound-guided puncture drainage is an alternative treatment for some DNAs with limited clinical evidence. Hence, the optimal drainage technique for the treatment of DNAs remains unclear. Therefore, we will perform a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify the efficacy of ultrasound-guided puncture drainage for DNAs. METHODS A

The indirect effects of CMV reactivation on patients following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: an evidence mapping.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains a challenging problem, and the impact on the risk of overall mortality (OM) and non-relapse mortality (NRM) in patients following allo-HSCT is still controversial. Utilizing the evidence mapping method, we aimed to assess the effect of CMV infection on outcomes of patients post-transplantation and identify research gaps through systematic reviews (SRs) and clinical studies. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane library databases were searched from inception until 5 July 20

Study protocol: A systematic review and meta-analysis regarding the influence of coagulopathy and immune activation on new onset atrial fibrillation in patients with sepsis.

BACKGROUND: New onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) is the most common arrhythmia affecting critically ill patients with sepsis. NOAF is associated with increased intensive care unit mortality, increased hospital mortality, development of heart failure and increased risk of permanent atrial fibrillation and thromboembolic events such as stroke. The pathophysiology of NOAF has been outlined, however, a knowledge gap exists regarding the association between abnormalities in coagulation and immune biomarkers, and the risk of developing NOAF in patients with sepsis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This protoc

Different interventions for the treatment of patent ductus arteriosus in children: a protocol for a network meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases. Once the PDA is diagnosed, it needs to be dealt with in time. At present, main methods include pharmacological treatment, surgical closure, and interventional closure for treatment of PDA. However, the effect of different interventions in PDA management is still controversial. Thus, our study aims to assess the effectiveness of different interventions together and estimate the sequence of these therapies for PDA children. Meanwhile, it is necessary to conduct a Bayesian network meta-analysis to co
