Clinicoradiographic evaluation of marginal periosteal membrane with or without osseous graft in the treatment of Grade II furcation defects of mandibular molars: A single-blinded randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Furcation defects in periodontitis present treatment challenges due to complex anatomy. While guided tissue regeneration aids regeneration, periosteal isolation limits osteoblast contribution. The marginal periosteal membrane (MPM) serves as a biological barrier, potentially enhancing regeneration. Hence, the study aims to evaluate the application of a vascularized MPM in the treatment of mandibular Grade II furcation defects with and without bone graft in terms of defect depth reduction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 60 patients, 30-50 years of age group having Stage III peri

Management of an Open Apex Using a Platelet-Rich Fibrin Membrane as an Internal Matrix and Mineral Trioxide Aggregate as an Apical Barrier: A Case Report.

Apexification is a crucial procedure for achieving apical healing in non-vital teeth with open apices. Traditionally, calcium hydroxide has been used for this purpose, but it has significant drawbacks, including prolonged treatment duration, increased risk of root fracture, and the potential for porous barrier formation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has emerged as a superior alternative due to its biocompatibility, faster setting time, and better sealing properties. However, MTA extrusion into periradicular tissues can cause persistent discomfort. The use of an internal matrix such as plat

Synergistic Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Effects of Clindamycin and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Against Pathogenic Oral Bacillus Species.

Oral bacterial pathogens, including Bacillus species, form biofilms that enhance antibiotic resistance, promote bacterial adherence, and maintain structural integrity. The ability of bacteria to form biofilms is directly linked to several oral diseases, including gingivitis, dental caries, periodontitis, periapical periodontitis, and peri-implantitis. These biofilms act as a predisposing factor for such infections. Nanoparticles, known for their strong antibacterial properties, can target specific biofilm-forming microorganisms without disturbing the normal microflora of the oral cavity. This …

3D modelling and x-ray depth analysis map of the pulp with computer software via digital periapical radiography and cone beam computed tomography.

OBJECTIVE: Periapical radiographs (PAR) offer information about the pulp and periodontal health of teeth. However, intraoral radiographs are insufficient for diagnosing buccolingual anomalies and variations such as bifid canals due to their two-dimensional nature. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the gold standard for 3D imaging in the clinic but requires additional radiation. The aim of this study was to create a software (XPAR) which obtains x-ray depth analysis and 3D modelling of the pulps of single-rooted teeth by converting the grey values in the original radiographs into numerica

Endodontic Reapproach in a Tooth With External Resorption: Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Endodontists face various challenges, and some factors are associated with endodontic treatment failure, such as the presence of resistant microorganisms resulting from inefficient disinfection and nonadhesive coronary sealing. The quality of the execution of the operative protocols, cautious irrigation, and the presence of a hermetic seal from the crown to the apex lead to successful endodontic retreatment. METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study approached a female patient, aged 30 years. The data obtained from the literature were collected from PubMed, SciELO, and Goo
