Ten new and seventeen previously reported Enhanced S Cone Syndrome (ESCS) subjects were used to search for genetic heterogeneity. All subjects were diagnosed with ESCS on the basis of clinical, psychophysical and/or electroretinography testing using published criteria. The multichannel auditory brainstem implant (ABI) provides the potential for hearing restoration in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). PURPOSE: Multiple, bilateral areas of congenital hypertrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE) have been described in association with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Histopathologic findings have suggested a generalized effect of the FAP gene on the RPE, which could impair the functional integrity of the RPE. Hearing deficits are a frequent consequence of both developmental and adult methyl mercury exposure in humans.
