The patient was an 81-year-old man. He underwent laparoscopic rectal resection and hepatectomy in 2 stages for Rb rectal cancer and synchronous liver metastasis, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. One year after the hepatectomy, the cancer metastasized to liver and lung, and a second hepatectomy and right lung partial resection were performed in 2 stages, along with preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy. One year after the lung partial resection, the cancer metastasized to right diaphragm. Since it was isolated, we decided to perform local resection, and performed a J-shaped thoraco-lapa

UNLABELLED: Peritoneal metastases (PM) are common in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). We aimed to characterize patients with mCRC and PM from a clinical and molecular perspective using the American Association of Cancer Research Genomics Evidence Neoplasia Information Exchange (GENIE) Biopharma Collaborative (BPC) registry. Patients' tumor samples underwent targeted next-generation sequencing. Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes were collected retrospectively. Overall survival (OS) from advanced disease and progression-free survival (PFS) from start of cancer-directed drug regi

Heterogeneous mismatch repair (MMR) status in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) may associate with refractoriness to immunotherapy. We aimed here to study the concordance in MMR status between primary and paired metastasis in mCRC. Our study included 84 patients diagnosed with mCRC with primary and matched metastatic cancers. Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the MMR status of primary lesions and matched metastases. Pooled analysis of 913 cases was used to evaluate the prevalence and organ specificity of MMR status heterogeneity. The correlations between MMR pattern heterogeneity an

BACKGROUND: Local recurrence of pelvic cancer is a therapeutic challenge. Medical history retrieve frequently high dose radiotherapy and multiple pelvic surgery. Thus, surgical resection is complex and leads to hazardous postoperative courses. We report a case of radiofrequency thermoablation (RFTA) of an isolated pelvic recurrence.
CASE: A 53-year-old woman presented in 2006 with a small (20 mm) pelvic recurrence of an anal canal cancer initially treated by radiochemotherapy and amputation of the rectum. The recurrence was localized in the left vaginal wall, involving the obturator internus

Immediate and long-term results of 28 combined operations for carcinoma of the distal part of the colon with resection of different portions of the urinary system are thought by the authors to justify such interventions even in a real spread of tumour to the adjacent organs. A wider range of resectability does not exert a negative effect on immediate and long-term results of the surgery. Complications due to a wider volume of surgery are noted rarely and never result in lethal outcomes. The incidence of recurrences and metastases in the group of patients subjected to combined operations is the

Two colorectal carcinoma patients with elevated serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels are discussed. In the first patient, metastatic disease in the left adrenal gland was diagnosed by computerized tomography scanning. A CEA concentration gradient between the left adrenal artery and the left adrenal vein was detected by selective sampling of the appropriate vessels. After adrenalectomy, the serum CEA level returned to normal. In the second patient, a CEA gradient between the hepatic artery and the left hepatic vein helped localize metastatic disease in the left lobe of the liver, before

INTRODUCTION: Mesenteric fat necrosis, an uncommon benign condition, can present as a mass-forming lesion and can closely mimic malignant mesenteric disease on imaging. Because its radiologic findings may overlap with those of malignant mesenteric tumors, preoperative diagnosis can be challenging, particularly when tissue sampling is difficult. This report describes a rare case of mesenteric fat necrosis, presenting as an enlarging mesenteric mass suspicious for malignancy.

INTRODUCTION: Multiple primary neoplasms are relatively rare, but their incidence has increased because of aging and improvements in diagnostic imaging.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 67-year-old man presented with epigastric pain. On upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, an ulcer was seen at the gastric angle, and biopsy showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (AC). Colonoscopy demonstrated a 15-mm lesion in the sigmoid colon and a submucosal lesion in the lower rectum. The biopsy showed well differentiated AC and neuroendocrine tumor (NET). In addition, abdominal CT and MRI showed a 14-mm nodu

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine the diagnostic yield of colonoscopy 1 year after colorectal cancer (CRC) resection based on whether the index colonoscopy was performed by the operating surgeon.
METHODS: All patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer by two colon and rectal surgeons at a university hospital from 1991 to 2005 were identified from the tumor registry. Those patients with a complete preoperative colonoscopy by any physician and a 1-year follow-up examination by the operating surgeon were selected for the study population. Family history of colorectal cancer, tumor

BACKGROUND: Recent studies reported an increase in colorectal cancer incidence for adults below 50 years. There is a lack of studies distinguishing between histological subgroups, especially from Europe.
METHODS: Using data from the Bavarian Cancer Registry, we analyzed incidence trends in colorectal cancer by age (20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 years and above), anatomic site (colon without appendix, appendix, and rectum), and histological subgroup (adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine neoplasm) from 2005 to 2019. We calculated 3-year average annual age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR) per 100,
