INTRODUCTION: Recycled bone autografts prepared using extracorporeal irradiation (ECIR) or liquid nitrogen freezing (LNF) methods have been used for the reconstruction of skeletal elements after wide resection of sarcomas involving bone tissues. Few reports include long-term follow-up data for histological analyses of recycled autografts, particularly in the case of ECIR autografts.

BACKGROUND: Limb-salvage surgery has been used during the last several decades to treat patients with high-grade bone sarcomas. In the short- and intermediate-term these surgeries have been associated with relatively good function and low revision rates. However, long-term studies show a high rate of soft tissue, implant, and bone-related complications. Multiplanar osteotomy with limited wide margins uses angled bone cuts to resect bone tumors with the goal of complete tumor removal while sparing host tissue although its impact on local recurrence is not known.

Below knee amputation remains the treatment of choice for most patients with aggressive tumours of the distal tibia. We report the clinical and functional outcome of limb preserving surgery and endoprosthetic reconstruction of the distal tibia and ankle joint in five patients who declined amputation. Askin tumour is a rare primitive neuroectodermal tumour of the chest wall belonging to Ewing family of tumours. It is diagnosed on histopathology and imaged with CT and MRI. Typical symptoms include pain, dyspnoea and weight loss. Generally has an aggressive course and is often misdiagnosed as other blue cell tumours. Primary pulmonary myxoid sarcoma with EWSR1-CREB1 fusion is an extremely rare tumor. Its clinical manifestation is unspecific and only molecular genetic method can proof this diagnosis. Round cell sarcomas with EWSR1-PATZ1 fusion are rare polyphenotypic sarcomas that typically show both neural and myogenic differentiation on immunohistochemistry.
