Previous studies have shown fetal tissues heal in a regenerative fashion without scar formation. The objective of this study is to compare the healing properties of adult and fetal tendons. Time-mated pregnant ewes at 80-85 days of gestation were utilized. A partial, midsubstance tenotomy was performed in the lateral extensor fetal tendons, and analogous tenotomies were created in the maternal limbs. One week after injury, the fetal and adult animals were sacrificed, and tendons were histologically and mechanically evaluated. Immunohistochemical staining for transforming growth factor beta iso

The bony pelvis serves as the attachment site for a large number of powerful muscles and tendons that drive lower extremity movement. Organizing the pelvic tendons into groups that share a common function and anatomic location helps the radiologist systematically evaluate these structures for injury, which can be caused by repetitive stress, acute trauma, or failure of degenerated tissues. Tears of the anteromedial adductors around the pubic symphysis and anterior flexors traversing anterior to the hip principally affect younger male athletes. Tears of the lateral abductors and posterior exten

BACKGROUND: Effective targeting of workplace upper extremity musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) prevention strategies requires the identification of demographic groups most at risk. Workers' compensation data provides an effective means of surveillance of MSDs at the population level.
OBJECTIVE: The primary purpose of this study was to identify the effects of age and sex on rates of tendon injuries of the wrist and hand, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), epicondylitis, and soft tissue shoulder injuries in Ontario, Canada between 2000-2019 using workers' compensation data from the Association of Worke…

BACKGROUND: Training-induced muscle, skeletal and joint trauma may result in acute phase response reflected by the changes in the blood concentration of serum amyloid A (SAA) in racehorses. It remains yet unclear if such systemic reaction could be triggered by sport injuries and what is the impact of different types of musculoskeletal trauma on SAA concentrations in racehorses. This study aimed to determine changes in the SAA blood concentration in racehorses with different types of injuries of musculoskeletal system.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study involved 28 racehorses diagnosed after the

Inadequate healing and rehabilitation after an ankle sprain may lead to chronic ankle instability, predisposing patients to impingement symptoms. The initial injury may also cause osteochondral lesions of the talus or peroneal tendon injuries, which are frequently underdiagnosed because symptoms overlap early with those of a simple ankle sprain. This review finds that rehabilitation remains the cornerstone of treatment for instability and impingement, while peroneal injuries are typically managed surgically. Management of osteochondral lesions depends on the type and severity.

Triceps tendon ruptures and avulsions are rare injuries and are often associated with systemic diseases. This paper illustrates the unique case of a 20-year-old female patient with pseudohypoparathyroidism, who sustained bilateral triceps avulsion fractures after a fall. She underwent suture anchor fixation, augmented with tension band suture as double row repair with excellent post-operative results. We describe the pathophysiology of this injury and the unique method of fixation, which can be an alternative effective method to repair these injuries.

CASE: A fifteen-year-old male gymnast sustained a segmental forearm fracture with physeal involvement as the result of a grip-lock injury.
CONCLUSION: Grip lock occurs when a leather grip becomes caught around a bar while the athlete is rotating around it. This may lead to physeal injuries, extensor tendon injuries, and fractures of the hand, wrist, or forearm. Proper grip fit and maintenance as well as education of coaches, parents, and athletes is important to prevent this type of injury.

Injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and posteromedial corner can occur in isolation or in the setting of multiligamentous knee injuries. Reconstruction of the MCL and posteromedial corner is indicated in the setting of a multiligamentous knee injury. Isolated cases failing nonoperative treatment may also undergo surgical treatment. Our preferred technique for anatomic medial-sided knee reconstruction is an open anatomic MCL reconstruction using an Achilles tendon allograft along with direct repair of all associated medial and posteromedial structures.

Fractures of the distal radius and the scaphoid are common injuries in adults. In recent years, surgical fixation of these types of fractures has increased in response to improved patient outcomes and evolving fixation techniques. Potential soft-tissue, neurovascular, or osseous complications, including tendon injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, loss of fracture reduction, and osteonecrosis, can increase the time the patient requires immobilization and can lead to poor patient outcomes. Prompt recognition and diagnosis of these complications may improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

While MR imaging studies of the hip have been directed routinely toward the diagnosis of atraumatic osteonecrosis (ON), interest has increased in the use of MR imaging to diagnose other disorders of the hip and surrounding soft tissues, especially in athletic injuries. In addition to reviewing MR imaging technical considerations and image appearance, this article discusses applications of MR imaging to diagnosing pelvic and hip fractures, muscle contusion and strain, tendon injuries, acetabular labral tears, bursitis, and osteitis pubis and chronic symphyseal injury.

Tendon injuries remain a major clinical challenge due to the tissue's limited regenerative capacity and poor remodeling of current allograft-based therapies. To address these limitations, we developed a tendon-derived thread (TDT) scaffold by electrocompacting decellularized tendon powder into aligned threads, which were subsequently woven into a porous overlay patch. Biochemical analyses of TDT confirmed efficient decellularization (DNA < 50 ng/mg) and the preservation of collagen and proteoglycans. Compared to en bloc human tendon graft (HTG), the TDT scaffold exhibited significantly higher …

BACKGROUND: Limited information is available about factors that impact prognosis after quadriceps muscle strain injury, particularly injuries involving the rectus femoris. This study aims to determine whether baseline clinical and radiological findings are associated with time to return to play (RTP) and injury recurrence after rectus femoris muscle strain injury in elite Australian Football players.
HYPOTHESIS: Baseline magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings related to the specific anatomical location and severity of rectus femoris injury will influence time to RTP and recurrence.

There is a paucity of literature on clinical outcomes of suture anchor repair for zone 1 flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) injury. The purpose of this study was to summarize the clinical results and complications of suture anchor repairs for zone 1 (FDP) tendon injuries across available peer-reviewed literature. A systematic search in October 2025 was conducted following the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines to screen for peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials, retrospective and prospective studies, and case series reporting outcomes and comp…

PURPOSE: A subset of patients with brachial plexus birth injuries experiences a loss of internal rotation, resulting either from neurological paralysis, as a complication of surgical procedures intended to restore external rotation, or because of contractures of the external rotators. Although humeral internal rotation osteotomy can address this deficit, it often results in compromised external rotation. To mitigate this drawback, in supple shoulders, we investigated the pectoralis minor tendon transfer to the subscapularis footprint as an alternative.
METHODS: Five patients with active inter

INTRODUCTION: The main deformity following an adult lower brachial plexus injury is the loss of finger flexion. Distal nerve transfers have been used to restore finger and thumb flexion followed by tendon transfers for intrinsic replacement for opening of the fingers. When patients present beyond 6 months, only tendon transfers are applicable. Since the brachioradialis (BR) is always spared in such injuries, it is the ideal muscle to provide finger flexion. Wrist extensor power may not be normal for the use of the radial wrist extensor to serve as donor. BR to FDP transfer provides reasonable

PURPOSE: To describe the anatomical insertion of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) on the distal phalanx.
METHODS: The FDP insertion to the index, middle, ring, and little fingers were dissected in 10 fresh-frozen cadavers. The FDP tendon was dissected off the volar plate, which was elevated from proximal to distal, before the distal phalanx was disarticulated. The distal phalanx was then inked and the FDP was sharply dissected from bone. The insertion length, width, and distance of the insertion from the joint were measured and the insertion surface area and centroid of the FDP insertion

UNLABELLED: We assessed the outcome after reconstruction of traumatic, complete, infected, extensor mechanism loss attributable to high-velocity open knee injuries in eight consecutive patients (all males) who presented to us between February 2005 and September 2007 at an average followup of 24 months. All were treated with gastrocnemius flaps. The loss in extensor mechanism was the patellar tendon in five patients, patella and patellar tendon in two patients, and combined patella, quadriceps, and patellar tendon in one patient. The size of the defect ranged from 8 x 5 cm to 15 x 15 cm. The pa
