Lewy bodies are surrounded by granulovacuolar degeneration bodies in dementia with Lewy bodies.

Lewy bodies (LBs), composed primarily of aggregated α-synuclein (α-syn), are the pathological hallmark of Lewy body diseases, including Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's disease dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Despite their diagnostic significance, the mechanisms underlying LB formation and their contribution to neurodegeneration remain poorly understood. Previous studies have reported that structures labelled with ubiquitin phosphorylated at serine 65 (p-UbS65)-a marker of mitophagy-localise both at the periphery of and within LBs. This study aimed to further characterise these s

Advances in the Evaluation of Peripheral Enthesitis by Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients With Psoriatic Arthritis.

Enthesitis is a key disease manifestation in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) that considerably contributes to pain, lower physical function, and reduced quality of life. Clinical assessment of enthesitis lacks sensitivity and specificity, and therefore better methods are urgently needed. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allows detailed assessment of the components of enthesitis, and consensus-based validated MRI scoring systems exist. These include the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) Heel Enthesitis MRI Scoring System (HEMRIS) method, which assesses the entheses of the heel

Efficacy of liposome-encapsulated ciprofloxacin in a murine model of Q fever.

Encapsulation of antibiotics may improve treatment of intracellular infections by prolonging antibiotic release and improving antibiotic uptake into cells. In this study, liposome-encapsulated ciprofloxacin for inhalation (CFI) was evaluated as a postexposure therapeutic for the treatment of Coxiella burnetii, the causative agent of Q fever. Intranasal treatment of male A/Jola (A/J) mice with CFI (50 mg/kg of body weight) once daily for 7 days protected mice against weight loss and clinical signs following an aerosol challenge with C. burnetii. In comparison, mice treated twice daily with oral

Association of Hidradenitis Suppurativa With Body Image.

IMPORTANCE: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) leads to disfigurement and painful eruptions in terminal hair follicles of the intertriginous skin, mainly of axillary, genitofemoral, and perianal sites. It is associated with an excessive impairment of quality of life, psychiatric disorders, and sexual distress. Body image impairment has been linked to depression and anxiety and has been described for some dermatologic disorders but has not yet been investigated in patients with HS. OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether body image is diminished in patients with HS and whether disease severity, age at o

Tuberculosis and childhood cancer - A review of literature.

Tuberculosis and malignancy are major public health problems in developing countries like India and causes significant morbidity and mortality. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an aerobic acid-fast bacilli which is an important pathogen especially complicating clinical status of paediatric oncology patients and treatment of infection with this bacilli is challenging in this subpopulation of patients because of ongoing immunosuppression and relative lack of published guidelines. Atypical presentations of tuberculosis in children also complicate the diagnosis and management. All the more, in tuberc

Tumor Microenvironment: Recent Advances in Immunotherapies of Pancreatic Cancer.

The progression of pancreatic cancer (PC) is significantly influenced by the immune system. In the United States, PC is the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality. The high lethality of PC is attributed to its immunological advantage, which is facilitated by an immunosuppressive microenvironment, a low mutational burden, and minimal T-cell infiltration. Although immunotherapies, such as checkpoint blockades or genetically engineered T cells, have not yet demonstrated viability, there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that innovative combinations of conventional therapies and va

Extrapleural Intrathoracic Hydatid Cyst: A Rare Cause of Upper Limb Neuropathic Pain.

Human echinococcosis is a common zoonotic disease. Due to favourable climatic conditions, India contributes to the majority of the burden of cystic echinococcosis (CE) in the world. The lung is the most commonly affected organ in the body, after the liver. Common symptoms of pulmonary hydatid cyst (PHC) include cough, chest pain, expectoration, and hemoptysis. This case report is a rare presentation of hydatid disease of the thoracic cavity with complaints of upper limb neuropathic pain. Radiological investigation showed an extrapleural thoracic cyst compressing the brachial plexus, and serolo

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Secondary to Tuberculous Tenosynovitis With Rice Bodies: A Case Report.

CASE: We report the case of a 34-year-old African man who presented with severe symptoms of recurrent left carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and left hand swelling after previous open decompression. Considering the recurrent unilateral affection of the left hand in a patient working in a slaughterhouse in an area with a moderate burden for tuberculosis, tuberculous infection was suspected. Open surgery and biopsy revealed tuberculous tenosynovitis of flexor tendon sheath and shiny white rice bodies. CONCLUSION: Tuberculous tenosynovitis should be considered as a differential diagnosis of the CTS w

Clinical heterogeneity of Pisa syndrome across Lewy body disorders: a multicenter comparison of Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.

BACKGROUND: Pisa syndrome (PS) is well recognized in Parkinson's disease (PD) but has been less studied in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and direct comparisons are scarce. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical expression of PS across PD and DLB. METHODS: In this multicenter cross-sectional study, patients were classified as PD without PS (n = 50), PD with PS (n = 41), DLB without PS (n = 45), or DLB with PS (n = 35). Standardized assessments covered cognition, neuropsychiatric symptoms, caregiver burden, motor severity, gait, falls, daily function. Two-way models, disease-specif

Relationship Among Fragility Fractures and the Overall Cardiovascular Burden in Endogenous Cushing Syndrome.

CONTEXT: Patients with endogenous Cushing syndrome (CS), in addition to significant cardiovascular morbidity, are burdened by a high prevalence of fragility fractures. Bone mineral density (BMD) alone poorly predicts the risk of fracture, and the implementation of trabecular bone score (TBS) is supported only by scant evidence. Indeed, reliable predictors of fractures in endogenous CS are still lacking. OBJECTIVE: This work aimed to analyze the prevalence and the potential predictors of fragility fractures in our patients with CS. METHODS: A monocentric, retrospective, cross-sectional study.

The adaptive immune response to Trichuris in wild versus laboratory mice: An established model system in context.

Laboratory model organisms have provided a window into how the immune system functions. An increasing body of evidence, however, suggests that the immune responses of naive laboratory animals may differ substantially to those of their wild counterparts. Past exposure, environmental challenges and physiological condition may all impact on immune responsiveness. Chronic infections of soil-transmitted helminths, which we define as establishment of adult, fecund worms, impose significant health burdens on humans, livestock and wildlife, with limited treatment success. In laboratory mice, Th1 versu

At Horsethief Lake, Chinook salmon and yellow perch showed lower total mercury body burdens than other species, but PAH body burdens did not differ significantly among species. Differences in the species caught among subsites and the low number of invertebrate samples rendered food web comparisons difficult, but these data show that the P …

The tightening grip of heat: Understanding human survivability in the face of rising heat extremes - A physiological perspective inspired by the legacy of John R. Sutton.

Rising global temperatures and increasingly frequent heatwaves pose a growing threat to human health. Understanding how humans tolerate environmental heat has therefore become a central challenge in environmental physiology. Building upon the scientific legacy of John R. Sutton, this narrative review examines the physiological determinants of human heat tolerance and their implications for health in a warming climate. We first consider approaches used to characterize thermal strain, highlighting evidence that body temperature measurements provide only a partial representation of whole-body hea

Psoriasis Severity, Comorbidities, and Treatment Response Differ among Geographic Regions in the United States.

Little is known about how psoriatic disease characteristics and treatment outcomes differ geographically in the United States. Our aim was to explore real-world, geographic variations in the use of biologic classes and outcomes within the Corrona Psoriasis Registry. Patient demographics and disease characteristics were assessed at biologic initiation and at 6 months. Logistic regressions were conducted to evaluate the odds of achieving targeted outcomes for seven United States geographic regions. We examined 737 biologic initiations among 717 patients. IL-17 inhibitors were used most frequentl
