[The therapeutic effect of norfloxacin on chronic prostatitis].

The clinical efficacy of norfloxacin (NFLX) was evaluated in 74 patients having chronic prostatitis with the subjective symptoms suggesting the inflammations of prostate and more than five white bloodcells (WBCs)/hpf in their prostatic secretions (EPS). Of these, gram negative rods with greater than or equal to 10(3)CFU/ml (GNR group) were isolated from the EPS in 10 patients (13.6%) and gram positive cocci with greater than or equal to 10(3) CFU/ml (GPC group) were obtained in 46 patients (62.2%). E. coli (70.0%) was the most frequent strain isolated among GNR group and S. epidermidis (40.4%)

Vertical Transmission of Group B Streptococcus, Prevalence, Associated Factors, and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profile among Newborns Delivered at Health Facilities in Jigjiga City, Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonizes the rectovaginal area of women and vertically transmitted to neonates. This bacterium has … blood agar. Colony characteristics, Gram stain, and catalase test were used for identification. All gram-positive cocci, B-hemolytic, and catalase-negative isolates were further identified using Christie-Atkins-Munch-Petersen and a bacitracin test. The modified Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method was used for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Data were analyzed usi …

Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) were the most common organisms (63.2%), followed by Gram-positive cocci (GPC) (19.6%) and fungi (17.3%). Most patients with SIs were on multiple antimicrobials. The most commonly used antibiotics against GNB were beta-lactam/beta-lactamase inhibitors (76.9%), carbapenems (57.7%), cephalosporins (53.9%), and antibiotics …

Parvimonas micra and central nervous system infections: mechanisms of transformation from oral commensal to intracranial pathogen and clinical evidence.

Parvimonas micra (P. micra), an anaerobic oral coccus long dismissed as a culture contaminant, is increasingly recognized as a causative agent of pyogenic central nervous system (CNS) infections, yet its neuropathogenesis remains poorly defined. This narrative review synthesizes 41 peer-reviewed studies identified via a structured comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Embase and Web of Science through June 2026. Epidemiologically, pooling available case reports and small series (n=64 confirmed CNS cases), P. micra is among the most frequently isolated Gram-positive anaerobic cocci in repo

Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis of vancomycin in patients with Enterococcus faecium bacteraemia: a retrospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: The trough concentration of vancomycin and the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC)/minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ratio are crucial in determining vancomycin efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. However, the use of similar pharmacokinetic principles in determining antibiotic efficacy against other gram-positive cocci is lacking. We performed a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis (association of target trough concentration values and AUC/MIC with therapeutic outcome) of vancomycin in patients with Enterococcus faecium bacteraemia. Immunoinformatics and Biophysics Approaches to Design a Novel Multi-Epitopes Vaccine Design against Staphylococcus auricularis.

Due to the misuse of antibiotics in our daily lives, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a major health problem. Penicillin, the first antibiotic, was used in the 1930s and led to the emergence of AMR. Due to alterations in the microbe's genome and the evolution of new resistance mechanisms, antibiotics are losing efficacy against microbes. There are high rates of mortality and morbidity due to antibiotic resistance, so addressing this major health issue requires new approaches. Staphylococcus auricularis is a Gram-positive cocci and is capable of causing opportunistic infections and sep…

Femoral Osteomyelitis Caused by Cladophialophora in a Patient without Known Immunocompromise.

BACKGROUND: Chronic osteomyelitis associated with a stage IV decubitus ulcer is a challenging condition to manage, characterized by frequent relapses and need for long-term anti-microbial therapy. We present a case of Cladophialophora osteomyelitis in a patient without known immunocompromised that was managed with a Girdlestone pseudoarthroplasty. Both strains were Gram-stain-positive, non-motile and non-endospore-forming cocci, and showed growth between 4 and 25 °C and 0-20% (w/v) NaCl. Strain CF4.4T showed growth at pH 6-11 [optimal growth at pH 9-10 and 5% (w/v) NaCl]. Isolation, characterization, and experimental infection of Streptococcus gallolyticus subspecies pasteurianus from commercial turkeys with acute septicemia: a pilot study.

Streptococcus gallolyticus (SG) is a Gram-positive cocci found as commensal gut flora in animals and humans. SG has emerged as a cause of disease in young poults between 1 and 3 wk of age. SG is associated with septicemia resulting in acute mortality with no premonitory signs in turkeys. Three SG isolates were obtained from clinical field cases of acute septicemia of commercial turkeys and used in three independent experiments. In Experiment 1, embryos were inoculated 25 d of embryogenesis with varying concentrations of SG1, SG2, or SG3. In Experiment 2, day of hatch, poults were inoculated wi…
