PURPOSE: To investigate the refractive outcomes of multifocal LASIK to create a center far, peripheral near zone in presbyopes.
METHODS: This prospective study using LASIK with a center far, peripheral near ablation algorithm comprised 68 eyes of 34 hyperopes and 78 eyes of 39 myopes. Mean patient age was 49 +/- 5.60 years for hyperopes and 46.0 +/- 3.80 years for myopes. Mean baseline manifest refraction spherical equivalent was +1.76 +/- 0.96 diopters (D) in hyperopes and -3.06 +/- 1.73 D in myopes. The mean baseline addition was +1.94 +/- 0.40 D in hyperopes and +1.67 +/- 0.44 D in myopes.

The visual acuity of the patient with ethambutol optic neuropathy will recover within 3 to 4 months after discontinuing the drug. We studied the extent of the recovery of other visual functions. BACKGROUND: Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a maternally inherited mitochondrial disease, characterized by acute or subacute, painless, bilateral visual loss. This article reports the case of an 11-year-old male patient with a history of proptosis and low progressive visual acuity in the left eye. He presented with a best corrected visual acuity of 20/25 in the right eye and light perception in the left eye. Exotropia and limitation in adduction were observed in the left eye. On automated perimetry, inferiortemporal quadrantopsia was observed in the right eye, while total scotoma was observed in the left eye. On magnetic resonance imaging, there was an expansive lesion in the left optic nerve, extending to the brainstem with chiasmatic involvement.

PURPOSE: Behcet's disease is an immune-mediated condition which can commonly have ocular involvement. We present a case of Behcet's associated neuroretinitis, which is a rare ocular manifestation of Behcet's disease.
OBSERVATIONS: The patient experienced significant improvement in her neuroretinitis without initiation of treatment. After 28 days of observation there was spontaneous resolution of exam findings and return of Snellen visual acuity to 20/20.
