Cytomegalovirus (CMV) gastritis has been reported in transplant patients. Symptoms are considered nonspecific, and gastroscopy with biopsy is usually performed to establish the diagnosis. Laryngeal movement disorders (LMDs), including spasmodic dysphonia and essential voice tremor, have been described as focal disorders affecting the muscles of the larynx. Little reference has been made to possible hyperfunction of supralaryngeal structures and/or palatal involvement. Videonasolaryngoscopic examinations of 83 patients with LMDs revealed a significantly high incidence of abnormal soft palate posturing (84%). Further associations and implications are presented.

Orthotic devices have been shown to successfully modify selected aspects of lower extremity mechanics and enhance foot stability during the support phase of running. It was hypothesized that orthotic intervention would relieve excessive strain on the ankle ligaments and reduce postural sway, especially in subjects with acute ankle sprains. Postural control and vestibular and eye motor function were evaluated in 7 postlingually deaf patients before cochlear implantation as vibration toward the calf muscles or galvanic electrical stimulation of the vestibular nerves perturbed stance. Ninety-one subjects with multiple sclerosis were evaluated by carbon dioxide cystometry in the supine, sitting, and standing positions, and by water cystometry in the supine position. The central organization of anticipatory postural adjustments was investigated by examining the influence of preparatory set on the temporal relationship between postural and arm (focal) muscle activation. Surface EMG was recorded from the right tibialis anterior, lateral gastrocnemius, anterior deltoid and posterior deltoid muscles when pushing or pulling on a stiff handle. A patient with typical trigeminal neuralgia experienced an episode of sudden loss of consciousness when she tried to sit up. Clinical neurological and neuroradiological studies revealed no known abnormalities.
