Intraanal ultrasound provides a very accurate structural analysis of the continence organ. In addition it proved to give excellent pictures of solid or fluid intrapelvic, particularly retrorectal, structures. It is superior to computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (requiring anesthesia), because the scanner is very close to the structures in question. This allows high scanner frequencies with resolutions of 0.9 mm and better. It is a quick method, avoiding radiation, and can be safely repeated as often as necessary.

Forty-three cases of primary vaginal squamous cell cancer were treated at the University of Wisconsin Hospital between 1956 and 1971. OBJECTIVES: This article reports the fortuitous recovery of nine Chlamydia trachomatis serovar L strains in cell cultures (Vero and LLC-MK(2) cell line) designed for viral culture.
METHODS: Nine ano-genital swabs were inoculated on confluent Vero, MRC5 and LLC-MK(2) cell cultures. They were collected from HIV-positive patients who were primarily men who have sex with men (MSM) presenting ulcerations that mimicked herpes simplex infections.

Patients with a wide variety of anorectal lesions present to family physicians. Most can be successfully managed in the office setting. A high index of suspicion for cancer should be maintained and all patients should be questioned about relevant family history or other indications for cancer screening. Ten animals (8 dogs and 2 cats) with distal rectal lesions were treated by surgically resecting the affected segment of the rectum by the rectal pull-through technique. There were four malignant tumors, three benign tumors, two inflammatory lesions, and one malignant tumor that extended histologically to the margins of a previous surgical excision. We retrospectively reviewed records of 551 patients with clinical Stage C prostatic adenocarcinoma treated with 60 to 70 Gy external beam radiation. Elective pelvic node irradiation was given to 247 patients (45%). Follow-up for all surviving patients ranged from 16 to 201 months (median, 6.5 years; mean, 7 years). The 5-, 10-, and 15-year uncorrected actuarial survival rates were 72%, 47%, and 27%, respectively. Disease-free survival rates were 59%, 46%, and 40% at the corresponding times.
