INTRODUCTION: The efficacy of a series of interventions to reduce risk of alcohol-exposed pregnancies is well-established, yet some subsets of women remain at risk. For instance, in CHOICES, a randomized clinical trial of an intervention to prevent alcohol-exposed pregnancy, nondepressed women reduced risk drinking at roughly twice the rate of women with depression (49% vs. 24%). This secondary analysis of CHOICES data examines constructs that can explicate differences between nondepressed and depressed women in the process of changing alcohol behavior.
METHODS: Profile analysis was used to c

OBJECTIVE: To understand why some adults with primary brain tumors do not use support services despite indications of a need for help.
METHODS: Nineteen adults recently diagnosed with primary brain tumors participated in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurrent ways participants explained their non-use of support services.
RESULTS: Some patients indicated that they did not use support services as they did not need help, in particular reporting positive experiences relative to their expectations or to others, that their needs were met, or difficulties recog

BACKGROUND: LGBTQ+ community's higher susceptibility to worse mental health outcomes and more help-seeking barriers compared to the cis-heterosexual population. Despite the LGBTQ+ population facing higher mental health risks, there has been a dearth of research focusing on developing tailored interventions targeting them. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a digital multicomponent intervention in promoting help-seeking for mental health issues in LGBTQ+ young adults.
METHODS AND FINDINGS: We recruited LGBTQ+ young adults aged between 18 and 29 who scored moderate or above on at l

BACKGROUND: The stigma of mental illness is a key barrier to recovery, help-seeking and social inclusion of people with mental disorders. Faced with stigma and discrimination, many struggle with the decision whether to disclose their condition to others. Honest, Open, Proud (HOP) is a peer-led group programme that supports participants with disclosure decisions. This study examined HOP's real-world effectiveness to reduce self-stigma and to improve secondary clinical and social outcomes as well as its cost-effectiveness.
METHODS: In this open-label, pragmatic parallel 2:1-randomised trial, we

BACKGROUND: Longitudinal studies examining the life trajectories of young people after they have exited homelessness have identified concerns with persistent social and economic exclusion, struggles to shake off identities of homelessness, and housing instability. This pilot study sought to explore the feasibility of improving socioeconomic inclusion outcomes by bolstering identity capital (sense of purpose and control, self-efficacy and self-esteem) among young people who had experienced homelessness.
METHODS: Nineteen individuals (aged 18-26) who had transitioned out of homelessness within

OBJECTIVE: Previous researchers have reported that in psychiatric populations many patients provide incorrect self-report information on current drug use. Therefore, the purposes of the present study were to determine the percentage of chronic pain patients (CPPs) using illicit drugs (cannabis, cocaine), to determine the percentage of CPPs who provide incorrect self-report drug use information in the psychiatric examination, and to identify some variables that could help in identifying the CPP likely to provide an incorrect drug use history using drug urine toxicologies. Violence against people is a widespread phenomenon and violence against people with disabilities even more common. Studies have examined different types of violence toward people with disabilities, but there has been almost no research to date on verbal violence involving people with intellectual or development disabilities (IDD). The present research focused on this subject. A qualitative study was conducted using an intervention program. The research questions were (a) what can help people with IDD expand their understanding of verbal violence and differentiate different situations of verbal

BACKGROUND: While cardiac rehabilitation has been shown to be effective at improving coronary heart disease (CHD), participation is generally poor. Attempts to increase uptake and adherence often fail. Use of a Facebook intervention for this population may be a unique opportunity to support self-determined motivation and affect adherence.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a Facebook intervention on motivation for exercise and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation in patients with CHD during a 12-week, Phase II cardiac rehabilitation program.

BACKGROUND: Contradictory findings on sexual health in women with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuester-Hauser syndrome (MRKHS) after vaginal reconstruction point toward the need for more profound assessment of this subject, particularly as it is still unclear what constitutes sexual well-being, especially genital self-image or sexual self-esteem, in women with MRKHS and neovagina.
AIM: The aim of this qualitative study was to assess individual sexual health and sexual well-being in the context of MRKHS after vaginal reconstruction, with an emphasis on genital self-image, sexual self-esteem, sexual satisf

Adolescents aged 12-18 with social anxiety disorder (SAD) manifest various emotional and behavioral problems, among which non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) requires urgent attention. Coping mechanisms for psychological distress significantly impact their vulnerability to NSSI. Understanding the heterogeneity of coping styles among adolescents with SAD can help identify those at high risk for NSSI. However, existing research provides little insight into this matter. This study aims to explore the latent profiles of coping styles in adolescents with SAD and analyze their association with NSSI beha

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted healthcare workers' mental health worldwide. Although increased stress, anxiety, and burnout are well documented, there is limited evidence on the effectiveness of workplace interventions such as infection prevention and control (IPC) and personal protective equipment (PPE) training in mitigating these effects.
AIM: To examine the association between IPC training, PPE training, and consistent adherence to safety protocols with self-reported mental health outcomes among healthcare workers in Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.
