AIMS: To describe the early phases of healing at the alveolar ridge around dental implants placed into fresh extraction sockets and to study whether (i) the dimension of the socket and (ii) a new implant surface nano-topography may have any influence.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen beagle dogs received 64 test (new surface) and control implants randomly placed at the distal socket of 3P3 and 4P4. AIM: To evaluate the influence of resorbable membranes on hard tissue alterations and osseointegration at implants placed into extraction sockets in a dog model.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: In the mandibular premolar region, implants were installed immediately into the extraction sockets of six Labrador dogs. Collagen-resorbable membranes were placed at the test sites, while the control sites were left uncovered. Implants were intended to heal in a submerged mode. BACKGROUND: Early implant placement with simultaneous contour augmentation is documented with short- and medium-term studies. The long-term stability of contour augmentation is uncertain.
METHODS: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, 41 patients with an implant-borne single crown were examined twice, in 2006 and 2010. Clinical, radiologic, and esthetic parameters were assessed at both examinations. In addition, a cone beam computed tomographic (CBCT) image was obtained during the second examination to assess the dimensions of the facial bone wall.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of alendronates on healing of extraction sockets and healing around implants in the maxilla of rats.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats were used. The rats in bisphosphonate group were subcutaneously injected with alendronate (5.0 mg kg(--1)) three times a week for 4 weeks. Both sides of the maxillary first molars were extracted, and customized titanium implants (Ø1.5 × 2.0 mm) were placed immediately into one side. The aim of this study was to describe and evaluate a modified maxillary sinus floor augmentation technique: the simplified osteotome technique. The study consisted of 26 patients treated with 39 Brånemark implants (Nobel Biocare) placed using the simplified osteotome technique between September 1997 and November 2004 (87 months).
