A new case of pulmonary hemosiderosis with coeliac disease is reported. This is an extremely rare combination of which only nine instances have been published over the last 20 years. Three of the reported cases occurred in children. Apart from a marked predominance of males, the combination has no specific features. Firm evidence of a causal relationship between the two diseases is lacking but treatment with a gluten-free diet alone apparently had beneficial effects on the lung disease in two patients. Aggf1 is the first gene identified for Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS), and encodes an angiogenic factor. However, the in vivo roles of Aggf1 are incompletely defined. AIMS: Antithrombin is an important inhibitor of the coagulation system, additionally exerting specific anti-inflammatory effects on endothelial cells. Healthy vascular endothelium is coated by the endothelial glycocalyx, diminution of which increases capillary permeability, e.g. after ischaemia. In the central nervous system, thrombin-mediated activation of protease-activated receptors (PARs) results in neuroinflammation and increased vascular permeability. These events have been linked to cancer and neurodegeneration. Endothelial cells (ECs) isolated from sporadic cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) specimens showed dysregulation of genes involved in "thrombin-mediated PAR-1 activation" signaling. CCM is a vascular disease involving brain capillaries. In CCM, ECs show defective cell junctions. Oxidative stress and neuroinflammation play a key role in disease onset and progression.

Patients with end-stage renal disease suffer from complex hemostatic disorders. Uremic patients show a bleeding diathesis that is mainly due to abnormalities of primary hemostasis; in particular, platelet dysfunction and impaired platelet-vessel wall interaction. We characterized the effects of histamine on intracellular Ca(2+) and activation of ionic currents in human capillary endothelial cells.
