Infant Feeding Practices Are Associated with Cardiovascular Profiles in Early Childhood: Findings from a Prospective Australian Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is associated with reduced risk of childhood obesity, but associations with cardiovascular risks in childhood are less well understood. OBJECTIVES: This study investigated associations between infant feeding practices and cardiovascular profiles in early childhood and the potential mediating role of infant rapid weight gain (RWG). DESIGN: This secondary data analysis was conducted using data from the Barwon Infant Study, an ongoing prospective pre-birth cohort in Australia commenced between 2010 and 2017, recruited through an unselected antenatal sampling frame. Validation of a Novel Dietary Screener for Clinical Practice: "¿SABE Lo Que Come?" A Screener Assessment for Better Eating (SABE) in Hispanic/Latino Adults.

BACKGROUND: The development and use of brief dietary screeners is recommended for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, yet validated Spanish-language tools for diverse U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities are lacking. Existing tools inadequately capture cultural foods, potentially introducing measurement bias. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the content validity of ¿SABE Lo Que Come? (SABE), a culturally adapted Spanish-language dietary screener derived from the Penn Healthy Diet screening instrument. DESIGN: A cross-sectional, mixed-methods study was employed to examine content validity of

Evenly Distributing Daily Dietary Protein Across Three Meals Reduces Women's Snack Food Reinforcement and Intake of Energy-Dense Snack Foods During Weight Loss: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: High-protein, energy-restricted diets support weight loss and maintenance; however, whether consuming a moderate amount of protein in a balanced distribution throughout the day reduces the reinforcing value (RV) and energy intake of energy-dense snack foods is not known. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the effect of 2 patterns of protein distribution during weight loss on (1) the relative reinforcing value (RRV) of energy-dense snack foods compared with the RV of a nonfood alternative; (2) energy intake when presented with snack foods; and (3) potential moderators of adheren

Dietary fat, inflammation, circulating tumor cells, and circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer survivors: An exploratory cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Inflammation contributes to cancer recurrence through signaling pathways responsible for cell growth and metastasis, impacting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). A high fat diet may contribute to inflammation directly or indirectly through changes in visceral adipose tissue (VAT), a body composition compartment associated with inflammation. OBJECTIVE: This analysis examined the association between percent energy from fat and circulating markers of inflammation, CTCs, and ctDNA. DESIGN: This study was an exploratory secondary analysis of cross-sectio

Changes in Toddler Diet Quality Between 12 and 24 Months Using the HEI-Toddlers-2020: A Secondary Analysis of a Prospective Cohort.

BACKGROUND: Taste preferences and eating habits develop in the first two years of life and often persist over time, influencing the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic conditions. Although diet quality is known to decline from early childhood to adolescence, less is known about how dietary patterns evolve during toddlerhood. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess toddler diet quality using the Healthy Eating Index-Toddlers-2020 (HEI-Toddlers-2020) and characterize longitudinal shifts in dietary components and patterns between 12 and 24 months of age. DESIGN: Th

Association of Nutrition Intake Adequacy with Clinical Outcomes in Hospitalized Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) face nutrition-impacting symptoms that compromise oral intake and increase malnutrition risk. The independent relationship between nutrition intake adequacy and clinical outcomes in this population remains incompletely characterized. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether adequate intake (≥75% of estimated needs) during HCT admission is independently associated with hospital length of stay (LOS), 30-day readmission, and acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). DESIGN: Twelve-month retrospective cohort study using electronic med
