Measurement reliability, construct validity, and transparent reporting in original and replication psychological research.

Published (replication) studies that use measures to assess psychological phenomena need to transparently report information on measurement procedures, validity, and reliability to allow verification and use in future (replication) research. However, earlier results highlighted widespread poor reporting of psychological measurement. Here, we investigated measurement reporting in a sample of 77 measures within 56 Many Labs replications and related original articles (14-17) and found that the information relevant for reusing measures was reported in full in around half the replication measures,

Investigating the attitudinal and behavioral consequences of work-life balance considering the mediating role of psychological contract violation among english language teachers.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates the attitudinal and behavioral consequences of Work-Life Balance (WLB) among teachers, focusing on the mediating role of Psychological Contract Violation (PCV). METHODS: An applied, descriptive-correlational survey design was employed. The target population included all English language teachers in Golestan Province (N = 598), from which a simple random sample of 234 was selected. A total of 152 usable responses were obtained. The measurement model was assessed for internal consistency using composite reliability, and for convergent validity using Average V

Is adjustment disorder unidimensional or multidimensional? Implications for ICD-11.

In preparation for ICD-11, the adjustment disorder (AjD) diagnosis has undergone considerable revisions; however, the latent structure of AjD remains uncertain. It is unclear whether AjD is best represented as a unidimensional or multidimensional construct. This study performed a comprehensive assessment of the latent structure of AjD symptomatology and assessed its concurrent and discriminant validity. Individuals who experienced involuntary job loss (N = 333) completed a self-report measure of AjD symptoms. Seven alternative models of AjD were tested using confirmatory factor analysis. Gener

Descriptive and predictive validity of somatic attributions in patients with somatoform disorders: a systematic review of quantitative research.

OBJECTIVE: Research on hypochondriasis and other somatoform disorders (SFD) has provided evidence that patients with SFD tend to attribute their symptoms to organic dysfunctions or disease. However, recent studies appear to discredit this. There is no systematic evidence on whether patients with SFD predominantly rely on somatic attributions, despite calls to include somatic attributions as a positive criterion of somatic symptom disorder (SSD) in the upcoming Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). METHODS: This study is a systematic review of quantitative studies whic

Inflammatory bowel disease: developing a short disease specific scale to measure health related quality of life.

AIM: To report on the preliminary development of a short scale, the Edinburgh inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire (EIBDQ) to measure disease specific aspects of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in terms of both physical impact and health related quality of life (HRQoL) consequences. METHODS: A survey of individuals with Crohn's disease (n=50), ulcerative colitis (n=50) and psoriatic arthritis (n=28) was carried out using the EIBDQ. The data were subject to factor analysis in order to investigate underlying dimension of the EIBDQ which were then analysed for internal consistency. Data for

Relations of the factors of the tripartite model of anxiety and depression to types of social anxiety.

Our primary goal was to examine the relations of the specific components of the tripartite model of anxiety and depression [Clark, L. A., Watson, D. (1991). Tripartite model of anxiety and depression: Psychometric evidence and taxonomic implications. Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 100, 316-336] to two types of social anxiety (social interaction anxiety and performance anxiety) in 148 individuals with social phobia. In line with previous research, overall social anxiety was more closely related to the anhedonic depression (AD) or low positive affect factor of the tripartite model than to the p

Depression in vascular dementia.

OBJECTIVE: To study the presence of different dimensions of depression in subjects with vascular dementia. BACKGROUND: After a stroke, cognitive, affective and behavioural disturbances are common. It has been suggested that the nature of affective symptomatology can help to differentiate organic from psychological depression. METHODS: Cognitive and affective symptoms were assessed in 78 stroke patients and a principal component analysis was performed on these symptoms. Also, a discriminant analysis was carried out to establish the contribution of different symptoms on the diagnosis 'depressi

Somatoform dissociation discriminates among diagnostic categories over and above general psychopathology.

OBJECTIVE: The primary aim of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that somatoform dissociation would differentiate among specific diagnostic categories after controlling for general psychopathology. METHOD: The Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ-20), the Dissociative Experiences Scale, and the Symptom Checklist-90-R were completed by patients with DSM-IV diagnoses of dissociative disorders (n = 44), somatoform disorders (n = 47), eating disorders (n = 50), bipolar mood disorder (n = 23), and a group of consecutive psychiatric outpatients with other psychiatric disorders (n =

Help-Seeking Among University Students: Symptom, Attitudinal, and Demographic Correlates of Formal Care Use Versus Inaction.

AIM: Despite the importance of early intervention, a substantial proportion of students experiencing psychological distress do not access professional care. This study compared the coping responses that Japanese university students without a history of psychological distress anticipate with those that students with such a history report and examined factors associated with the use of formal professional care rather than inaction among the latter group. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was completed by 2025 undergraduates (Grades 1-4) at a large Japanese public university, representing 16.9%

Discriminative stimulus effects of ethanol in rats using a three-choice ethanol-midazolam-water discrimination.

Three-choice discrimination procedures are used to characterize how similar the discriminative stimulus effects of two drugs are in relation to each other. This procedure has suggested similarities between ethanol and ligands that positively modulate the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor complex. As an extension to these studies, male Long-Evans rats were trained to discriminate midazolam (3.0 mg/kg, i.p.) from ethanol (1.0 g/kg, i.g.) from water (2.3 ml, i.g.) in a three-lever, food reinforced task. Substitution tests were conducted following administration of GABAA-positive mod

Impacts of a changing climate and adverse weather events on individuals with spinal cord injury: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Our climate is changing, with heatwaves, wildfires and hurricanes posing increased risks for individuals with a disability such as spinal cord injury (SCI). Despite growing recognition of disability-related climate risk, the specific challenges for individuals with SCI have not been well-documented. OBJECTIVE: This narrative review aimed to broadly explore the literature describing the impacts of a changing climate (e.g., rising temperatures, adverse weather, etc.) on individuals with SCI. METHODS: A structured search was conducted across five databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, W

The impact of endometriosis on educational and professional pathways: a cross-sectional online study.

BACKGROUND: Symptoms of endometriosis often emerge during adolescence and intensify in early adulthood, critical periods for educational and career development. However, evidence on its impact on women’s broader life trajectories, particularly in education and work, remains limited. This study aimed to examine how endometriosis influences these trajectories and to identify the underlying factors and mechanisms involved. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted online using Qualtrics. Participants were 971 women with a clinical or surgical diagnosis of endometriosis. Sociodemographic a

Attempted suicide: lived experiences of refugees in Rhino Camp, West Nile, Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Suicide is among the leading causes of death worldwide, and every year, more people die as a result of suicide than HIV, malaria, breast cancer, war, and homicide. Suicide rates are high among vulnerable groups that experience discrimination, such as refugees and migrants. PURPOSE: This study explored the lived experiences of refugee suicide survivors in Rhino Camp, West Nile, Uganda, using Thomas Joiner's interpersonal theory of suicide attempts. METHODS: This study employed an interpretative phenomenological research design and purposive sampling techniques to select 15 partici

Psychosocial stressors experienced by people living with HIV during the pre-disclosure phase: a phenomenological analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The disclosure of HIV serostatus is central to HIV care and prevention across African countries; however, the psychological experience of the period preceding disclosure has received little direct attention in the Ghanaian evidence base. The research examined the psychosocial stressors experienced by people living with HIV during the pre-disclosure phase, defined as the period between diagnosis and disclosure to a given person, in Cape Coast, Ghana. METHODS: A qualitative study design with a focus on Moustakas' transcendental phenomenological approach was used. In-depth semi-str

Psychodiagnostics: Classification of the Yips Phenomenon based on Musician's Dystonia.

PURPOSE: Similar to musician's focal dystonia, a task-specific phenomenon known as yips, has also been reported in professional athletes. Yips is usually described as focal dystonia, or choking under pressure, or as lying on a continuum between both. Based on the common occupational conditions across musicians and athletes, the present exploratory study aimed to investigate whether musicians diagnosed with focal dystonia and golfers affected with yips, can be similarly subclassified based on their psychological profiles. METHODS: Twenty healthy musicians, 20 musicians with focal dystonia, 20
