OBJECTIVE: To investigate the production of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in the fallopian tube (FT) during the menstrual cycle and whether epithelia from FTs bearing an ectopic pregnancy differ from healthy tubes in iNOS expression.

We report a case of a twin ectopic pregnancy (EP) after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET). A 24-year-old nulligravida presented with lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding 4 weeks after embryo transfer. Serum beta-HCG levels were 40 IU/mL, 90 IU/mL, and 1970 IU/mL on ET days 12, 14, and 23, respectively. OBJECTIVE: Primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube (PCFT) is a rare malignancy comprising 1% of genital tract cancers. We sought to compare survival trends between PCFT and ovarian carcinoma (OC) patients (pts) in a matched, case-control comparison.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with PCFT were identified from five academic centers. Two OC controls were identified for each PCFT pt based on age, stage, and residual disease. All pts were surgically staged and treated with platinum based chemotherapy (CT) if indicated. PFS and OS were then compared with Kaplan-Meier analysis.

Meconium peritonitis is a sterile chemical peritonitis caused by peritoneal seeding of meconium from an antenatal gastrointestinal perforation. We report a 32-week preterm female neonate who developed meconium peritonitis due to bowel perforation, secondary to a twisted left fallopian tube mass, which was excised and confirmed by histopathology. This association has not been reported earlier. The infant also developed transient central diabetes insipidus, a very rare condition in a preterm neonate.

Ovarian carcinoma is a malignant disease with a high rate of recurrence, necessitating repeated chemotherapy treatments. We conducted a retrospective study in patients with platinum- and paclitaxel-resistant ovarian, fallopian tubes and primary peritoneal carcinoma patients treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. PURPOSE: To determine the pregnancy outcomes in patients undergoing fallopian tube recanalization (FTR) with use of oil-based versus water-soluble contrast agents.

In 130 sterile women undergoing first look laparoscopy we found in 86.9% patent tubes. In this group in 34.5% an endometriosis was discovered. All patients with closed tubes had no signs of endometriosis. In a second look laparoscopy we found in 50% an endometriosis after microsurgery if the tubes were open. Port-site metastases following laparoscopic surgery for cancer constitute an emerging problem.
