Examining The Effects of Silver Diamine Fluoride Treatment on the Surface Morphological Properties and Binding Strength of Demineralized Dentin to Glass Ionomer with and without Potassium Iodide and Glutathione : Examining The Effects of Silver Diamine Fluoride Treatment on the Surface Morphological Properties.

One new and promising chemical for non-invasive and minimally invasive dental caries treatment is silver diamine fluoride (SDF). However, demineralized dentin discolors easily, so it's not a popular choice for permanent teeth or the aesthetic zone. Although this discolouration can be reduced by applying glutathione and potassium iodide (KI) antioxidants, it is unclear how these substances affect the bond strength of glass ionomer (GI) to pre-treated dentin. Consequently, the objective of this research was to evaluate the degree to which dentin treated with SDF plus KI (SDF-KI), SDF plus glutat

Quantitative assessment of active charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy in diabetes using 18F-sodium fluoride PET/CT.

BACKGROUND: No single imaging modality currently provides quantitative assessment of disease activity in active charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CNO) of the foot, either at diagnosis or during follow-up after clinical remission. This study evaluates the role of 18F-sodium fluoride positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18F-NaF PET/CT) in active CNO. METHODS: In this prospective study, 80 patients with diabetes presenting with asymmetric foot swelling were screened and assessed using an infrared thermometer. 39 symptomatic patients were included (33 active CNO and 6 non-CNO) and unde

Effect of eggshell nanoparticles and fluoride varnish, with and without diode laser, on dentinal tubule occlusion (An in vitro study).

BACKGROUND: Dentine hypersensitivity is a common clinical condition, affecting between 4% and 69% of the adult population. Management strategies are based on occluding patent dentinal tubules to reduce dentinal fluid movement. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effect of nano eggshell and fluoride varnish, alone and combined with diode laser, on dentinal tubule occlusion using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). METHODS: Forty sound human maxillary premolars were sectioned to expose mid-coronal dentine and etched with 37% phosphoric acid to

Synergistic inhibition of Streptococcus mutans biofilms by fluoride and epigallocatechin gallate: insights from multi-omics analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Streptococcus mutans biofilms are central to the development of dental caries, and strategies that effectively attenuate biofilm formation remain essential for disease control. This study examined the combined antibiofilm effects of sodium fluoride (NaF) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a green tea-derived polyphenol, and delineated the underlying mechanisms using an integrative multi-omics framework. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Synergistic interactions between NaF and EGCG were first assessed by crystal violet staining and checkerboard microdilution analysis. Biofilm biomass, vi

Enhanced adsorption removal of fluoride by multifunctional polymer-based hydrated neodymium oxide: Capacity evaluation and mechanism.

The serious fluorine (F-) pollution has been triggered by the rapid development of chemical industry, and there is an urgent need to seek the efficient and stable adsorbent for F- removal. Although majority of hydrated metal oxides possess certain defluorination capability, problems of metal ion leaching, narrow pH, and difficult powder recovery are common in engineering applications. Herein, a novel nanocomposite (HNO@D201) was fabricated by confining hydrated neodymium oxide (HNO) nanoparticles within anionic resin (D201) pores. Batch experiments revealed that HNO@D201 could effectively adso

Early-life Co-exposure to fluoride and lead modifies the tissue distribution of essential and toxic trace elements.

Exposure to toxic metals such as lead (Pb) during early development is known to induce long-lasting physiological and neurological effects. However, little is known about how co-exposure to fluoride (F)-a common environmental and dietary element-modulates Pb toxicokinetics and the homeostasis of other trace elements in soft and mineralized tissues. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of early-life exposure to Pb (30 µg/L) and/or F (50 µg/L) on the distribution of nine trace elements (Al, As, Ba, Cd, Cu, Mn, Pb, Sr, and Zn) in soft organs (brain, heart, kidney, liver) and bone of Wistar ra

Betaine alleviates fluoride-induced learning and memory impairment in offspring rats through DNA methylation of GNAS.

The aim of this study was to explore the DNA methylation mechanisms by which maternal betaine (BET) supplementation during pregnancy alleviates fluoride-induced learning and memory impairments in offspring rats. Female and male rats were mated 2:1 in cage. After pregnancy, they were divided into control group, sodium fluoride (NaF) group, low BET group, and high BET group. The neurobehavioral test showed that slower swimming speed, longer escape latency and fewer platform shuttles were observed in NaF groups, but these were reversed by BET intervention. Furthermore, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E)

Comparison of the Effect of Simulated Gastric Acid on the Surface Properties of Different Fluoride-Releasing Dental Restorative Materials.

PURPOSE: Eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia negatively impact on oral health due to repeated exposure to gastric acid, leading to dental erosion and deterioration of restorative materials. Resin-Modified Glass-Ionomer Cement (RMGIC), Giomers and glass hybrid may offer greater resistance in these adverse environments. This study aimed to compare the effect of simulated gastric acid on the surface properties of different fluoride-releasing composite materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An in-vitro experimental study was conducted using disks of RMGIC (Gold Label Light-Cured Universal Re

Exposure to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Causes Dental Developmental Anomalies: Underrecognized Risk of Fluoride Bioaccumulation.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals that persist in the environment and have potential health risks. Among them, 8:2 fluorotelomer alcohol (FTOH) undergoes microbial biotransformation in the environment into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and releases fluoride. While PFOA's toxic effects have been well-studied, the impact of PFOA (and its precursor 8:2 FTOH) on dental health is largely unknown. Moreover, it is not established whether, and to what extent, defluorination and fluoride bioaccumulation occur during the in vivo 8:2 FTOH metabolism. This study is the fir

Combined effects of chronic high glucose and fluoride exposure on kidney cells: exploratory in vitro and in vivo study.

Fluoride is commonly used in dentistry to prevent dental caries, however, excessive exposure may pose risks to soft tissues, particularly the kidneys, which are responsible for approximately 60% of fluoride excretion. Diabetic nephropathy, a major complication of diabetes mellitus, may share pathogenic pathways with fluoride-induced renal toxicity. However, the combined effects of chronic hyperglycemia and fluoride exposure on kidney cells remain poorly understood. This study investigated the effects of fluoride on murine renal tubular epithelial cells (M-1) and on murine kidneys under normal

Toward Accurate Estimation of Extractable Organic Fluorine by Analysis of Fluoride Contamination in Extracts Using Gas Chromatography.

Extractable organic fluorine (EOF) analysis is used to assess fluorinated organic content in, e.g., water and solid sample extracts. EOF content is often determined by combustion ion chromatography (CIC). However, contamination from inorganic fluoride (F-) in extracts risks overestimating actual EOF. Despite this known interference, a standardized and optimized methodology to mitigate such contamination remains lacking. In this study, we evaluated the presence of F- in EOF extracts and designed and validated a method for F- determination in small aliquots (∼250 μL) of complex aqueous and solve
