A profile of Australian women practicing breast self-examination.

Breast self-examination (BSE) and medical breast examination practices were studied in a group of 1,103 women without diagnosed breast cancer, randomly sampled to conform in age and social status with breast cancer cases from the population of Brisbane, Australia between 1981 and 1985. Relationships between these practices and sociodemographic factors, breast cancer risk indicators, health related behaviors and source of knowledge about BSE were analyzed. Overall, 63% of women reported performing BSE. BSE was practiced frequently (monthly or more). BSE frequency was only weakly associated with

Regular Testing to Enhance Learning Outcomes in Macroscopic Anatomy in Dental Education.

BACKGROUND: Anatomy education is fundamental to competent and reliable dental practice, yet effective strategies to enhance learning and long-term retention remain debated. Regular formative assessment may support learning through several mechanisms, including retrieval practice, repeated exposure to course content, and more distributed studying, but its impact in oral macroscopic anatomy education remains insufficiently explored. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study compared four cohorts of second-year dental students at the University of Oslo (N = 205). Two cohorts received the standard teachi

The Effect of Breast Cancer and Breast Self-Examination Health Education on Awareness, Beliefs, and Practices of Female Students at the Faculty of Health Sciences of a University in Somalia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women globally, and early detection remains the cornerstone of reducing mortality. In low-resource settings such as Somalia, limited access to mammography and diagnostic services makes breast self-examination (BSE) an important awareness practice. This study aimed to assess the effect of an educational intervention based on the health belief model (HBM) on Somali female university students' knowledge, beliefs, and practices related to breast cancer and BSE. METHODS: A randomized controlled study was conducted among 86 fema

Examining provider practice-level disparities in delivery outcomes among patients with a history of Cesarean Delivery.

BACKGROUND: Choosing whether to pursue a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) or scheduled repeat cesarean delivery (SRCD) requires prenatal assessment of risks and benefits. Providers and patients play a central role in this process. However, the influence of provider-associated characteristics on delivery methods remains unclear. We hypothesized that different provider practice groups have different obstetric outcomes in patients with one prior cesarean delivery (CD). METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of deliveries between April 29, 2015 - April 29, 2020. Subjects were divided

KDOQI US Commentary on the 2017 KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline on the Evaluation and Care of Living Kidney Donors.

Living kidney donation is widely practiced throughout the world. During the past 2 decades, various groups have provided guidance about the evaluation and care of living donors. However, during this time, our knowledge in the field has advanced substantially and many agreed on the need for a comprehensive, unifying document. KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) addressed this issue at an international level with the publication of its clinical practice guideline on the evaluation and care of living kidney donors. The KDIGO work group extensively reviewed the available literature a

Changing practice: modified clean technique for intermittent catheterization.

The purpose of this article is to share an experience of putting research into practice. A review of the literature conducted in 1997 revealed considerable support for the use of clean technique for intermittent catheterization (IC). Based on this support, planning began for a change in practice. According to Lewin's Classical Change Theory (Scott & Rantz, 1994), the first stage in change is unfreezing, when plans were made to ready for the change. Preparing for change included establishing a core group of nurses and clarifying the rationale for changing practice. Once preparation was complete

Impact of Virtual Reality Mental Health Nursing Simulation on Nursing Students' Competence.

PURPOSE: This study investigates the impact of a Virtual Reality (VR)-based Mental Health Nursing Practice Simulation (MHNPS) on nursing students' competency in caring for individuals with mental disorders. Nursing students often face fear, anxiety, and helplessness during mental health (MH) rotations, impeding the attainment of learning objectives in the MH nursing practicum. Therefore, innovative strategies offering practice opportunities are crucial for their competence development. METHODS: Using a one-group pretest-posttest repeated measures experimental design, 50 nursing students, havi

Guideline on the investigation, management and prevention of venous thrombosis in children.

Venous thrombo-embolism (VTE) is increasingly recognized in paediatric practice. Few clinical trials have been performed in this area in children and management is largely extrapolated from adult practice where there is a considerable evidence base. This is likely to be unsatisfactory for a number of reasons. Firstly, there are significant differences in epidemiology and potential differences in the mechanisms for VTE in this age group. Secondly, many aspects of haemostasis are age-dependant, which has implications for the use of anticoagulants in the paediatric population. Thirdly, there are
