Background Fracture-dislocations of all four ulnar (second to fifth) carpometacarpal (CMC) joints are rare hand injuries and frequently overlooked or missed. These injuries can be treated conservatively when closed reduction is successfully achieved, though they are sometimes irreducible and unstable. BACKGROUND: To establish the characteristics of patients in pediatric age who have been referred to hand rehabilitation center since 1998.
METHODS: The patients were screened retrospectively and those within 0-16 age range were included into the study (178 patients; 126 males [70.8%], 52 females [29.2]; mean age 10.33+/-4.45; range 0 to 16 years). Demographic data, causes and locations of injury and follow-up period (week) were recorded.

Solitary primary non-Hodgkin bone lymphoma of the hand is a rare entity with only 3 cases reported in the literature. We report the case of a 77-year-old patient with isolated large B-cell bone lymphoma of the proximal phalanx of the little finger without rheumatoid arthritis or methotrexate treatment. The patient was treated with digital amputation and at 6 months' follow-up showed no relapse or dissemination of the disease.

PURPOSE: We used a technique that facilitates the custom contouring of porous polyethylene implants.
METHODS: Bone was was molded in the subperiosteal space of the orbit. The wax then served as a model for free-hand sculpting of the rigid implant.
RESULTS: Bone wax templates have been used successfully in seven patients with enophthalmos or superior sulcus depression.
CONCLUSIONS: This technique has increased the precision of custom contouring subperiosteal alloplastic implants.

Acromesomelic dwarfism is a distinct condition characterized by short stature of the short limb type, with the hands and feet showing the most obvious deviations from normal. The forearm bones are usually disproportionately shorter than the other long tubular bones of the limbs. The intelligence is normal. Available data suggest autosomal recessive transmission. Characteristic clinical and radiographic features permit establishment of a confident diagnosis in the first year of life.

Loader machine operators in Volzhskiĭ Automobile Works, who suffer from cervical osteochondrosis, were subjected to X-ray screening with special applied methods. The screening revealed various compensatory and dystrophic changes involving locomotion apparatus of hands and cervical part of spine. The studied occupational factors proved to enhance the locomotion disorders in the examinees.

An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is classified as a benign osteoclastic giant cell-rich tumour. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient with a solid variant ABC involving the trapezoid bone. We chose to fill the defect with bone cement after curettage. At the 12-month follow-up, the patient remained recurrence-free with satisfactory hand function. Carpal bone tumours are rare and typically benign, with malignant and metastatic lesions being extremely uncommon. The anatomy of the posterior interosseous vessels makes them suitable as a donor area of free flap. The skin island can be designed on the perforating vessels of the distal third of the forearm, up to the dorsal wrist crease, to increase the pedicle length (7 to 9 cm). Reconstruction of bony defects is challenging. Most cases can be solved by means of nonvascularized bone grafts, either corticocancellous or cancellous. However, when the defect is long, there is a combined soft tissue defect, infection, a poor scarred bed, and when a piece of cartilage needs to be included, a vascularized bone graft is preferred. This article features a review of the most useful flaps for small and long defects in the hand and upper limb.
