We report a patient--a 42-year-old man--who had suffered from recurrent duodenal ulcer for about 20 years. The non-invasive urea breath test can demonstrate the presence of Helicobacter pylori infection with the same accuracy as invasive methods (histology, rapid urease test, culture), but with less distress and inconvenience to the patient. Accumulating evidence has implicated Helicobacter pylori, an established cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer, in the etiology of gastric cancer.
