[Midfacial fractures. Diagnosis and treatment].

The clinical diagnosis and treatment of midfacial fractures have been optimized by modern computer tomography and the development of plate osteosynthesis. Even complex fractures involving the orbit and scull base can be accurately reconstructed and stabilized. The use of titanium mini- and micro-plates as well as resorbable materials allows customized treatment of this esthetically and functionally important area. The preservation of basic functions such as vision, scent, speech, occlusion and swallowing, in addition to aesthetic aspects, should be the primary goals of surgical treatment. In g

The Modification of Rotation - Advancement Flap Made in 1950.

The early techniques of cleft lip repair involved the straight-line technique, the triangular flap technique or some kind of geometric line (triangular, quadrangular closure). A turning point in cleft lip surgery was in 1955 when doctor. Millard presented his method: the rotation-advancement technique or flap, at the First International Congress of Plastic Surgery in Stockholm. Today, the technique, with or without some modifications, is used by more than 85% of cleft surgeons around the world. We are presenting a patient with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate who underwent surgery sixt

The Transposed Sagittal Bandeau Technique for Correcting Scaphocephaly.

Correcting the scaphocephalic skull shape caused by sagittal craniosynostosis has likely produced a wider variety of treatment approaches than any other single-suture synostosis. Considering that the goals of surgery are to enlarge the intracranial space to facilitate cerebral blood flow and to normalize appearance in all 3 dimensions, the ideal repair should safely and effectively accomplish both objectives. A technical variation on a remodeling procedure is presented, based on the creation of a sagittal bandeau, which provides the foundation for a correction that not only widens the posterio

Barcelona Consensus Paper on Reconstructive Lymphedema Surgery: A Delphi Study.

BACKGROUND: Lymphedema-a chronic condition characterized by accumulation of lymph fluid due to malfunction of the lymphatic system-remains a significant clinical challenge despite advances in diagnosis and treatment. Given that lymphatic surgery is an important therapeutic option, the aim of the current study was to establish an expert consensus on recommendations for improving the surgical management of lymphedema. METHODS: This international consensus study involved a modified nominal group and Delphi process. During the World Symposium for Lymphedema Surgery in 2023, the steering group inv

[Application and progress of magnetic surgical technique in organ anastomosis reconstruction].

Magnetic surgery,as an emerging discipline, utilizes the principle of "non-contact" magnetic force to drive the innovative development of surgical technology. Magnetic compression anastomosis (MCA),a significant branch of magnetic surgical technology, demonstrates notable advantages in reducing surgical trauma, shortening operation time, and lowering the risk of complications, particularly in the reconstruction of digestive tract and vascular anastomoses. Compared to traditional suturing and mechanical anastomoses,MCA avoids defects such as the "pinhole effect" and "foreign body reaction",leveragin

The Current Status of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation: From Experimental Frontier to Reconstructive Reality.

Vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) has evolved from an experimental concept into a validated reconstructive option for patients with complex tissue defects. With established success in hand and face transplantation and expanding applications in uterus, penis, and abdominal wall transplants, VCA offers superior functional, esthetic, and psychosocial outcomes compared to traditional reconstruction. However, its broader adoption is limited by immunosuppression requirements and related sequelae, donor scarcity, and reimbursement challenges. This article reviews the clinical status, c

[Therapeutic concepts in treatment of lymphedema].

BACKGROUND: Lymphoedema is a chronically progressive disease which, if left untreated, can lead to a massive reduction in quality of life and secondary diseases such as recurrent erysipelas. For a long time, purely conservative therapy was considered the only treatment option for primary or secondary chronic lymphedema of the upper or lower extremities. Only in very pronounced late forms were resection procedures such as liposuction or tissue removal considered as further treatment options. A series of modern reconstructive therapy procedures are now available thanks to the-in some cases rapid

Current classifications of midface resections: scoping review and proposal of a new classification.

Midface resection is a surgical procedure with varying degrees of complexity, ranging from partial upper jaw removal to exposure of the dura mater after resection. Existing classifications for the resulting midfacial defects are inconsistent and have issues regarding terminology, therefore a consensus is needed. The aim of this review was to analyse the previously published classifications, identify defining parameters, determine their strengths and weaknesses, and propose a universal classification for midfacial defects with the goal of being sufficiently detailed yet easily applied in clinic

[Forehead in craniosynostoses].

The forehead is the cranial part of the forehead, and represents an important component of facial esthetics. The deformations linked to craniosynostoses are characterized by modifications in height, width, and angulation. Their surgical correction during childhood is based on well-established techniques of remodeling using resorbable osteosynthesis. Today, distraction and springs allow less invasive procedures with good outcomes. Sequellae mainly correspond to hypotrophies of the temporal region, corrected with fat grafting. The presence of a mutation increases the risk of reoperation in the f

Treatment of an Overcorrected Ear After Previously Performed Otoplasty.

No single otoplasty technique can be applied to all prominent ear deformities. The factors determining the type of operative method are based on the surgeon's preference for and confidence in the technique as well as long-term results. However, all cutting or scoring techniques include a risk of development of undesired edges, defects, or deformities on the ear being operated on. One of the patients' complaints and dissatisfactions after otoplasty is an overcorrected ear in its upper half. This condition leads to the loss of helix and prominent and conspicuous crus superior and antihelix. The

Gaps in Access to Reconstruction Compared with Audiologic Care among Children with Microtia.

Reconstruction for microtia decreased psychosocial morbidity; timely referral for surgery is crucial. We evaluated specialist referrals for microtia at a major academic medical center. Only one-half of patients were evaluated at any point by a reconstructive craniofacial surgeon. Patients followed early for audiologic concerns may not be receiving timely referred for reconstruction.

Aesthetic Surgery Before-and-After Photography Bias on Instagram.

PURPOSE: This study aims to systematically assess body and facial aesthetic surgery before-and-after photography bias on Instagram. METHODS: An Instagram search using the term "plastic surgeon" was conducted on October 2020. The top 11 plastic surgeons' accounts were selected, and the first 15 images were selected from these profiles pertaining to different anatomical locations. Each photo was analyzed by a blinded board-certified plastic surgeon utilizing a 5-domain clinical photography bias score. The domains covered: (1) photo quality; (2) photo background; (3) position; (4) exposure/cover

Reconstruction techniques of the orbit after Brown class III maxillectomy: A systematic review.

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the surgical techniques used for orbital floor reconstruction after Brown class III maxillectomy for cancer. Three databases were searched from January 1990 to January 2022. Of the 614 studies identified, 20 were retained after eligibility assessment. The surgical techniques were classified into four groups: free bone flaps (A), alloplastic implants (B), bone grafts (C), and soft-tissue reconstructions (D). Ectropion and diplopia concerned 42.6% and 6.6% of the patients, respectively. Soft tissue reconstruction was more likely to cause ectropion (17/27)
