Physiological stress, such as malnutrition or illness, can disrupt normal enamel growth, resulting in linear enamel hypoplasias (LEHs). Alth … s study. Our data on striae of Retzius angles suggest that these influence LEH expression along the tooth crown and may contribute to the consistently high frequencies of LEH seen in Pongo in this and previous studies. We suggest that future work aimed at understanding species variation in these angles is crucial to evaluating taxonomic patterns of LEH expres …

Cast metal post-core systems have a long history of successful use because of their superior physical properties. However, their high elastic modulus can cause stress concentrations within the surrounding radicular dentin, resulting in root fractures. Moreover, the increasing demand for more esthetically appealing and biocompatible restorations has led to the development of tooth-colored, translucent, metal-free post-core systems. Notably, prefabricated zirconia ceramic post systems have been introduced to satisfy this trend toward a heightened awareness of esthetics, whereby the translucency

An epidemiological study of traumatic intrusion of permanent teeth was performed on 216 teeth in 151 patients treated over a 50-year period at a major trauma center in Denmark (Copenhagen). This analysis showed that intrusion of permanent teeth was of rare injury only affecting 1.9% of traumatic injuries involving permanent teeth. The main etiologic factor appeared to be falling which resulted in axial impacts on maxillary or mandibular teeth. The most common injury patterns were intrusion without additional injuries (33.5%) and intrusion with crown fractures (60.5%). A few cases were combinat

A retrospective study was carried out to evaluate the clinical factors involved in deciding to perform apicectomies. Five hundred and seventeen teeth from 392 patients (211 women and 181 men) that had undergone apicectomy during the period from September, 1990 to December, 1992 were assessed using the patients' clinical records. The information recorded included the source of referral, the quality of preoperative root canal filling, the size of periradicular lesion, the type of the lesion (for biopsed lesions), the type of coronal and radicular restorations, and the different factors that infl

INTRODUCTION: Investigating the stress distribution generated by orthodontic forces within the periodontal ligament (PDL) is critical for quantifying mechanical stimuli, correlating them with subsequent histological responses, and ultimately identifying evidence-based optimal force levels. This study aimed to evaluate the combined biomechanical effects of alveolar bone height loss, tooth movement type, and alveolar bone density on the initial retraction of the maxillary central incisor, and to quantify the weighting of each factor on PDL stress.
METHODS: A three-dimensional (3D) finite elemen

BACKGROUND: Mandibular first premolar has a complex and variable anatomy of the root canal system, which often leads to failure of endodontic treatment due to missing root canals. Identifying the complete structure of the root canal system to ensure that all root canals are perfectly cleared and filled becomes critical to the success of root canal therapy. This report introduced a unique case of endodontic treatment of a two-rooted mandibular first premolar in the buccolingual direction with a total of four canals.
CASE PRESENTATION: An adult male patient with a lower left first premolar was

The objective of the present study is to describe the stress and displacement patterns created by clear aligners and composite attachments bonded with the acid-etch technique on the labial surface of the maxillary first upper molar during its distalization. Maxillary molar distalization is a clinical orthodontics procedure used to move the first maxillary molar distally. The procedure is useful in patients with some Class II malocclusion allowing the first molar to move into a Class I relationship and the correction of associated malocclusion features. Three finite element models were designed

INTRODUCTION: The primary function of corono-radicular post is to provide retention for the core and to reinforce and to replace the remaining coronal tooth structure. There is considerable controversy regarding optimal choice of the material. An ideal post system should exhibit fracture resistance higher than the average masticatory forces. Finite elemental analysis (FEA) method facilitates precise analysis of the distribution and magnitude of stresses at any point of complex and irregular structures. Thus, this FEA study has been undertaken to evaluate the fracture stress distribution patter

Vital pulp therapy (VPT) is the preferred conservative treatment for preservation of symptomatic pulps in immature permanent teeth. The present case report summarizes VPT of an immature permanent molar with irreversible pulpitis associated with apical periodontitis in a 9-year-old boy. Cervical pulpotomy was performed and radicular pulp stumps were covered with calcium-enriched mixture (CEM) cement; the tooth was then restored with stainless steel crown. After a 50-month follow-up period, the pulpotomized molar was clinically functional and asymptomatic. Moreover, radiographic evaluation revea

Developmental odontogenic anomalies can occur in primary as well as in permanent dentition leading to morphological variations in shape, size and structure and numerical variations such as hypodontia. The most commonly reported odontogenic anomaly in primary dentition is conjoined teeth. Conjoined teeth can be due to fusion or gemination. Relevant clinical and radiographic evaluation is a must to differentiate between the two. Occurrence of double fusion as an anomaly may not be infrequent, but triple fusion is a rare odontogenic anomaly. We report a case of a 7.5-year-old girl who clinically

Primary teeth play a crucial role in a child's development, particularly in maintaining space for permanent teeth. The premature loss of a primary tooth can lead to orthodontic issues, making the use of space maintainers essential to ensure proper growth and development of permanent teeth. To preserve space, the fabrication of a space maintainer is necessary. Since conventional space maintainers do not restore masticatory function, this study presents an innovative solution for space preservation following the extraction of the first primary molar through the design of the functional space mai

Orthodontic movement of soft and hard tissues can facilitate the placement of a dental implant. A missing lower incisor is one of many situations where orthodontic management of the edentulous space prior to surgery can improve implant insertion. Multidisciplinary treatment must be carefully planned before tooth movement is begun in order to ensure the best possible aesthetic and functional outcomes.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of conventional radiography with digital subtraction imaging in the detection of simulated internal resorption.
METHODS: Simulated resorption cavities were created by the sequential use of progressively larger round burs (ISO size range 006-016) in the labial wall of the coronal or apical thirds of the pulp chamber of the maxillary incisors of two cadavers. Five viewers examined 120 pairs of radiographs, one of each pair being baseline (no lesion) and the other with or without a lesion. The process was then repeated with subtraction images of the

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Traditional veneer preparation has come to represent an almost universally accepted guideline of veneer preparation. It calls for an interproximal finish line at or just into the contact point. However, in certain situations, such an approach can have functional and esthetic limitations.
PURPOSE: This article reviews those functional and esthetic limitations and discusses an alternative technique, the full veneer preparation. The advantages and disadvantages of this approach are discussed in relation to veneer cases with malaligned teeth, diastema, discoloration, black s

BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease is a common disease and leads to the loss of supporting structures and pathologic tooth migration. In order to achieve a functionally sound and aesthetically satisfactory treatment outcome, combined orthodontic-periodontal therapy may be necessary. In this study, we focus on the anterior tooth movement when designing different thickness of power ridge for patients with periodontal disease and investigate its biomechanical effects during anterior retraction using clear aligners (CAs).
