Evaluation of the Mechanical Properties of 3D-Printed Post and Core Systems.

PURPOSE: To evaluate and compare the fracture resistance and elastic modulus of 3D-printed post and core systems and fiber posts and composite cores. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Endodontic treatment was performed on 30 mandibular premolars, and post space preparation was performed. The teeth were then randomly divided into two groups (n = 15 per group): the 3D-printed (3DP) group and the fiber post and composite core (FPC) group. In the FPC group, fiber posts (Cytec Blanco 43.604, Hahnenkratt) were bonded with resin cement (RelyX U200, 3M), and the composite core dimension was standardized with a

Comparative evaluation of three materials used for fragment reattachment in uncomplicated crown fracture-An in vitro study using bovine teeth.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The recommended treatment for uncomplicated crown fractures is bonding the fractured fragment or the fragment reattachment. A paucity was identified regarding the studies comparing the efficacy of micro-hybrid and nanohybrid composites in fragment reattachment. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate and compare three materials for bonding of fragments rehydrated by humidification in teeth with uncomplicated crown fractures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty mandibular bovine incisors with similar dimensions and free of any structural deformities were fractured similar to the t

Assets and pitfalls of chemical and microscopic analyses on gunshot residues in skeletonized bodies: a report of five cases.

In case of gunshot wounds, forensic anthropologists and pathologists have many tools at hand, and the assistance that chemical and microscopic investigations can provide in such scenarios is often valuable and crucial. However, the results of such analyses in the search of gunshot residues (GSR) ought not to be acritically considered. We report five cases where chemical (sodium rhodizonate) and microscopic (scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX)) analyses were performed for the search of GSR. Four cases concerned the forensic field and analyses on buried, c

Complications of mandibular fractures.

Before any definitive treatment of mandibular fractures, the patient needs to be evaluated for more potentially life-threatening injuries. Complications can and do occur with treatment of mandibular fractures and can occur during any of the phases of treatment. The development of an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan is vital in achieving optimal success and decreasing complications. Knowledge of the anatomy and the principles of bone healing is also an important factor in preventing complications. To limit long-term untoward effects, complications should be recognized early and

Replacement of severely traumatized teeth with immediate implants and immediate loading: literature review and case reports.

One of the options for management of severely traumatized dentitions is to provide immediate implant placement with immediate loading. Three representative cases out of 15 patients with 23 traumatized teeth treated to date in our clinic are presented. None had labial bone fractures. The teeth were replaced with NobelReplace Groovy implants (Nobel Biocare, Gothenburg, Sweden) in the fresh sockets immediately after extraction. They were placed toward the palatal areas in the sockets and 3 mm below the gingival margins. If there were gaps between implants and sockets wider than 1 mm, particulate

Bilateral complicated crown fractures secondary to chin injury: a case report.

Traumatic injuries to the chin are not uncommon in children. Nevertheless, crown fractures, which are common sequelae to this type of injury, might be overlooked, especially if dental care is not sought immediately after a visit to a non-dental facility. The present case report reviews the delayed diagnosis and treatment outcome of a bilateral posterior complicated crown fracture affecting mandibular second primary molars in a young child. Pharmacologic and orthodontic considerations are also discussed in the paper.
