Comparative evaluation of time-to-event analysis methods for mobility limitation in older adults: A multi-cohort benchmarking study.

Time-to-event models are central to aging research, quantifying both whether and when an event occurs. However, guidance on selecting among traditional statistical and machine learning (ML) methods for prediction modeling remains limited, particularly for epidemiologic aging cohorts with wide assessment intervals. Mobility limitation, as a clinically important aging outcome with such complexities, provides a relevant test case for methodological benchmarking. We conducted a systematic benchmark comparison of 14 statistical and ML time-to-event methods using harmonized data from four longitudin

Facial data for autism spectrum disorder detection using machine learning, deep learning, and emerging large language and vision-language models: A systematic review.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition whose timely identification can support earlier intervention. Conventional assessment relies on specialist observation and caregiver reports, motivating research into computer-aided screening using facial and behavioral data. This systematic review examines 171 studies published between 2016 and May 2026. It synthesizes machine learning and deep learning approaches to ASD assessment using static facial images, facial video, eye tracking, and multimodal data containing a facial signal. It also covers large language models, vision-

Virtual Reality in Medical Education: A Concept Analysis.

Virtual reality (VR) remains inconsistently defined in medical education, with the term being applied to heterogeneous immersive and nonimmersive technologies. This inconsistency may hinder intervention classification, evidence synthesis, curriculum planning, and technology selection. This study aimed to analyze and clarify the concept of VR in medical education. A concept analysis was conducted using the eight stages of Walker and Avant's framework. A scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology provided the original documentary basis. A complementary concept-directed, non

Automated integration of spatial location and eye gaze tracking: An extensible multimodal system for developmental data.

Advances in computer vision and mobile sensing enable the study of development in naturalistic environments, yet existing motion tracking systems lack the integration of automated analysis and accessibility needed in developmental research. Current approaches force trade-offs between precision and ecological validity, requiring structured protocols that constrain spontaneous interactions or manual coding that cannot scale for large-scale studies of individual differences. We present an integrated system combining high-density data collection with machine learning-supported analysis using off-t

Computational analysis of heart rate variability in ASD and ADHD: a systematic review.

Heart rate variability (HRV) represents a rich physiological signal that captures the computational dynamics of autonomic regulation. Emerging evidence suggests that atypical autonomic control contributes to the neurocognitive phenotype of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, the characterization of HRV alterations in these populations remains incomplete. This review was motivated by the broader research context of the EMPOWER project, funded through the Horizon Europe program, which investiga

Design and Implementation of an Eyewear-Integrated Infrared Eye-Tracking System.

Eye-tracking is a key enabling technology for smart eyewear, supporting hands-free interaction, accessibility, and context-aware human-machine interfaces under strict constraints on size, power consumption, and computational complexity. While camera-based solutions provide high accuracy, their integration into lightweight and low-power wearable platforms remains challenging. This paper is a feasibility study for the design, simulation, and experimental evaluation of a photosensor oculography (PSOG) eye-tracking system that is fully integrated into an eyewear frame, based on near-infrared (NIR)

A unified fixed point approach for enriched bivariate mappings with applications to volterra systems and fractional-order chaos.

We develop a unified fixed point theory for enriched bivariate contractions in ordered Banach spaces and in ordered convex metric spaces. Two classes of mappings are introduced and analysed: enriched bivariate Ciric-Reich-Rus contractions (𝒞BCRRCe) and enriched bivariate interpolative Ciric-Reich-Rus contractions (𝒞BICRRCe). For each class we prove the existence and uniqueness of coupled fixed points and establish the geometric convergence of the coupled Krasnoselskij iteration. The methodological contribution is a transparent product space reduction: the coupled averaged operator associated w

Quantum-edge synergy for dynamic acoustic compensation in ultrasound safety: a narrative review of tissue heterogeneity challenges.

BACKGROUND: Conventional ultrasound safety monitoring relies on the Mechanical Index (MI) and Thermal Index (TI), which lack tissue-specificity. Consequently, real-time safety profiling remains imprecise. Dynamic, tissue-specific corrections such as tissue perfusion rate (TPR) aim to address this limitation. This narrative review examines how integrating these corrections with quantum-cloud computational frameworks may enable enhanced safety and image quality in ultrasonic applications. OBJECTIVE: We assessed the potential of an integrated quantum-cloud framework to reduce ultrasound-related

Longitudinal analysis of decision-making deficits in binge-eating disorders using drift diffusion modeling.

Individuals with binge-type eating disorders (binge-EDs) repeatedly engage in binge eating despite negative consequences, suggesting altered decision-making. However, the specific cognitive mechanisms underlying these alterations remain poorly understood. In this longitudinal study, we applied the drift diffusion model (DDM) - a computational approach that isolates core decision-making components - to examine how these components relate to binge-eating frequency over time. Ninety-five adults with binge-EDs (69% binge-eating disorder; 15% bulimia nervosa) completed a probabilistic reward task a

Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Colonoscopy for Colorectal Lesion Detection: Current Evidence, Challenges, and Future Directions.

Background: Colonoscopy is the gold-standard screening modality for colorectal cancer (CRC) prevention, enabling detection and endoscopic resection of premalignant polyps and reducing CRC incidence and mortality by up to 77% and 53%, respectively. However, colonoscopy effectiveness is substantially dependent on endoscopist expertise, with significant inter-operator variability in adenoma detection rates (ADR) and, consequently, a risk of missed lesions, particularly diminutive and morphologically subtle adenomas. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), specifically computer-aided dete
