HPV 59, an oncogenic genital type related to HPV types 18 and 45 was identified in a condylomata acuminata lesion. An extract of this lesion was used to infect human foreskin fragments, which were grown in athymic mice as xenografts. Continued propagation using extracts of xenografts permitted growth of additional HPV 59-infected xenografts. CCEs purifie …

A 40-year-old woman underwent colonoscopy and a whitish lesion detected at anal canal at local hospital, the histology of biopsy showed squamous cell high-grade dysplasia. The patient was transferred to our center for treatment because of concerning invasive disease. The test for human immunodeficiency virus was negative. Colonoscopy showed an isolated whitish, slightly elevated lesion with estimated size of 10 × 4 mm on anal canal.

BACKGROUND: Giant condyloma acuminatum (GCA), also known as Buschke-Löwenstein tumor, is a rare tumor-like lesion associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Although it is histologically benign, it behaves in a locally aggressive manner. GCA most commonly involves the external genitalia, perianal region, perineum, and rectum. It occurs more frequently in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those with advanced or suboptimally controlled human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Here, we report a case of perianal GCA in an HIV-infected patient and discuss the diagnostic an

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States, with up to 90% of females infected at some point in their lifetime. While most HPV infections will be cleared by the immune system within 2 years, persistent HPV infection may result in anogenital warts, dysplasia of the cervix, vagina, vulva, and squamous cell carcinoma. This chapter will review the epidemiology, microbiology, progression, and treatment of HPV-related genital disease in women.

Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. It is important to study the prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes before implementing the HPV vaccination program. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics of CA cases and the distribution of HPV genotypes in Shandong Province, China. One-to-one questionnaire surveys were conducted on all patients diagnosed with CA in sentinel hospitals from Shandong Province, China. HPV genotypes were determined using the polymerase chain reactio

Anogenital Warts (AGWs) are benign proliferations caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection on the genital or anal areas. Various therapeutic options are available for the treatment of AGWs but there is no best or ideal therapy, and the recurrence of AGWs is significantly high. A promising new therapy that is currently being evaluated is immunotherapy with the intralesional Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine. Two cases of a 23-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were presented with manifestations of condyloma acuminata type AGWs. The patients were immunocompetent and received single

Genital warts (GWs) are the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The increasing prevalence of GWs in children has renewed the interest in therapeutic management which still presents a unique challenge, being influenced by many variables including size, quantity, and location of warts, as well as the presence of comorbidities. Conventional photodynamic therapy (C-PDT) has already shown encouraging results in the treatment of viral warts in adult patients, but its use is still not standardized in the pediatric population. On this topic,

BACKGROUND: Genital warts, besides their importance as symptoms of sexually transmitted infections, can also threaten the sexual health of couples. The purpose of this study was to explore the sexual compatibility in women with active genital warts.
METHODS: A qualitative study with a conventional content analysis approach in Tehran, Iran, from January 2019 to February 2020 was conducted on a purposeful sample of data saturation achieved after interviewing 14 women with genital warts, 2 couples and 3 dermatologists, 1 sexologist and 1 infectious disease specialist. Data were collected through

Different therapeutic modalities for ano-genital warts (AGWs) are available but data on the efficacy of 5-fluorouracil 0.5%/salicylic acid 10% solution (5FU/SAsol) in the treatment of AGWs are scarse. We enrolled 17 patients with AGWs (14 males, 3 females with a mean age of 34.2 years) who gave written informed consent to the off-label use of topical 5FU/Sasol. Response to treatment was assessed based on the AGWs number: complete if there was complete clearance of the lesions; partial if there was >50% decrease in the lesion number and none if there was <50% decrease in the lesion number. Cons

Giant condyloma acuminatum, also known as Buschke-Lowenstein tumor (BLT), is a rare disease of the anogenital region. BLT is considered a locally aggressive tumor of benign histological appearance, but with the potential for destructive growth and high recurrence rates. BLT development is strongly associated with infection with low-risk human papillomaviruses (HPVs), mostly HPV-6 and -11. Immunity to HPVs plays a crucial role in the natural control of various HPV-induced lesions. Large condyloma acuminata are frequently reported in patients with primary (e.g., DOCK8 or SPINK5 deficiencies) and
