Identifying and addressing obstacles to optimal alopecia areata and atopic dermatitis care in the UK.

Alopecia areata (AA) and atopic dermatitis (AD) are both chronic inflammatory conditions, associated with physical and significant psychosocial burden, with patients facing considerable barriers to care in the UK. In this perspective, we explore gaps in care in the UK healthcare system for patients with AA and AD, gaining insights from healthcare professionals, patients and patient advocates to identify opportunities for improvement within primary care and secondary care.

Environmental exposures and atopic dermatitis: an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder with a substantial global burden. Although multiple studies have investigated the impact of environmental exposures on AD, a comprehensive review integrating children, adults, and mixed-age populations is lacking. This study aimed to synthesise current evidence on environmental risk factors for AD and examine age-specific susceptibility. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science up to March 2026 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses on environmental exposures and AD risk. Exposure

Mastering the Use of Systemic JAK Inhibitors for Atopic Dermatitis: A Dermatologist's Practical Guide.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most frequent conditions treated by dermatologists. The therapeutic options for moderate-to-severe AD are rapidly expanding with the introduction of biologics and Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis). There are currently three oral JAKis approved for the treatment of AD, namely abrocitinib, baricitinib and upadacitinib. Although JAKis are rapidly effective for treating AD and its symptoms, they require careful patient selection and monitoring due to a side-effect profile which includes an increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and malignanc

Dupilumab-Induced Psoriasis in an Adolescent With Severe Atopic Dermatitis: Successful Management With Abrocitinib.

Psoriasiform eruptions have been described in patients treated with dupilumab. This case report describes an adolescent with severe atopic dermatitis who developed a widespread psoriasiform dermatitis 8 months after starting dupilumab. His therapy was switched to abrocitinib resulting in near-complete resolution of the psoriatic lesions with good atopic dermatitis control. This case adds to the limited pediatric literature on dupilumab-induced psoriasis and highlights abrocitinib as an effective therapeutic alternative capable of addressing both conditions concurrently.

[Construction of a butyrate-producing engineered bacteria and its therapeutic effects on atopic dermatitis].

Objective Dysregulation of the gut-skin axis caused by intestinal microbiota imbalance is an important contributor to the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). This study aims to construct an engineered Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) strain capable of efficient and stable butyrate secretion, and evaluate its therapeutic efficacy in a calcipotriol (MC903)-induced mouse model of AD. Methods Using synthetic biology strategies, the core butyrate synthesis gene modules (bcd, but) derived from Faecalibacterium prausnitzii were codon-optimized, cloned into an expression plasmid, and introduced

Demodex Infestation in Patients With Atopic Dermatitis Treated With Dupilumab: A Case-Control Study.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which dupilumab, an interleukin-4 receptor alpha antagonist, has become a cornerstone therapy for moderate-to-severe disease. However, persistent facial and neck erythema and related symptoms have been increasingly reported during dupilumab treatment, and the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Demodex species, common components of the cutaneous microbiota, have been proposed as potential contributing factors. This retrospective case-control study evaluated Demodex infestation in patients with moderate-to-severe

Review of Herpes Zoster Occurrence in Patients With Atopic Dermatitis Treated With JAK Inhibitors.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that markedly impairs quality of life. Janus kinase inhibitors (upadacitinib, abrocitinib, and baricitinib) are effective therapies for moderate-to-severe AD but are associated with viral reactivation, particularly herpes zoster (HZ), due to immunosuppressive effects on interferon signaling and natural killer cell activity. The objective of this study was to systematically evaluate the risk of HZ among AD patients treated with JAK inhibitors (JAKis), identify key risk factors, and assess the clinical outcomes and management of HZ in
