Surgical treatment of the megaureter in adults is only indicated when important symptoms and/or complications occur. The Authors report their experience with eight adult patients affected by megaureter, undergone to conservative surgery. The average age of the patients was 36 years (range 21-52). Over a 12 year period, 18 patients with hemobilia had ultrasonographic examinations at one of three hospitals. This study tests the hypothesis that prenatal exposure to 2,4-dichlorophenyl-p-nitrophenyl ether (nitrofen), an herbicide known to induce pulmonary hypoplasia and other malformations in fetal rats, also may induce ureterohydronephrosis (UHN) and oligohydramnios. Time-dated pregnant Wistar rats were given 100 mg of the chemical on day 9 or 11 of gestation, and the findings in their fetuses were compared with those of suitable controls. Authors describe two uncommon cases of infantile mammary duct ectasia (EDM). This disease, first reported in 1983, is characterized by dilatation of the subareolar duct system, and by phlogistic reaction and fibrosis. In the medical literature only 8 cases have been reported, but probably its frequency is undervalued due to the scarce general knowledge of this pathology. The differential diagnosis is reviewed.

In early childhood intussusception a characteristic gas pattern is often visible on plain radiographs which can be used for diagnosis. To test this hypothesis, radiographs of 163 children with intussusception, and as many controls, were reviewed. A 4-year-old female blue and gold macaw (Ara ararauna) with a history of chronic vomiting was treated with metoclopramide hydrochloride. After the second treatment, ataxia, torticollis, and opisthotonos became evident. These signs resolved with the administration of diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Despite supportive care, the bird died several days later. Histologic lesions were suggestive of proventricular dilatation syndrome.

The pre-operative finding of biliary ductal dilatation in the setting of multiple gastrointestinal atresias has not been previously reported. This paper illustrates the sonographic findings in two neonates with multiple gastrointestinal atresias from the prepyloric region to the rectum. Biliary ductal dilatation was seen in both patients and highly echogenic, mobile intraluminal bowel debris secondary to calcified meconium was evident in one. Post-operative biliary gas was demonstrated on sonography in one case.

In two cases of coronary arterial-ventricular fistula, detailed morphologic evaluation of the affected coronary artery was performed by MRI. Cine-MRI enabled both identification of the fistula and evaluation of the direction of shunt blood flow. Thus, MRI is a valuable noninvasive procedure in the anatomic and physiologic diagnosis of coronary arterial fistula.

Division of the great auricular nerve is commonly performed during superficial parotidectomy and leads to anaesthesia of the ear lobe. In the case presented here, this gave rise to an accidental self-inflicted thermal burn of the ear lobe. This might have been avoided had the posterior branch of the nerve been preserved.

A prospective study was carried out during 1986 to find out the incidence of fetal renal tract anomalies in 3228 pregnant mothers delivered in one hospital. Ultrasound examination of the fetus was performed as part of the routine antenatal assessment at 16-20 weeks' gestation, and later examinations were done if there were obstetric indications. Fetuses with any degree of dilatation of the renal pelvis or other renal tract anomalies were followed up with serial ultrasound examinations in utero and then postnatally at 6 days and 6 weeks of age, or earlier if indicated.
