Machine learning-guided optimization of lead-free perovskite solar cells: predicting PCE with high accuracy.

This study investigates the influence of absorber layer thickness and acceptor doping concentration on the photovoltaic performance of CsSn₀.₅Ge₀.₅I₃-based lead-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs), complemented by machine learning (ML) for predictive modeling of power conversion efficiency (PCE). The simulation results indicate that an optimal thickness of 0.8 µm enhances light absorption and charge extraction, yielding a short-circuit current density (JSC) of 27.36 mA/cm2, while the overall maximum values obtained from the plots are 28.53 mA/cm2 for JSC, 1.219 V for VOC, 89.84% for FF, and 31.

Asparagine depletion mediates high-intensity exercise induced cardiac injury: translational evidence from metabolomics and Mendelian randomization.

BACKGROUND: Exercise is an important method of promoting health. But unscientific high-intensity exercise is harmful to health. Extreme high-intensity exercise could lead to serious cardiac events such as sudden cardiac death. However, myocardial injury and the metabolic changes have been little studied. Our study aimed to explore the changes in myocardial tissue and metabolism after high-intensity exercise, while investigating the relationship between key metabolites and diseases that cause myocardial injury in population. METHODS: We investigated myocardial injury through serum myocardial i

Scenario-dependent O3 driver identification and formation responses to VOCs/NOx emission reduction pathways from integrated and sectoral sources in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, China.

Persistent surface ozone (O3) in China's Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, driven by complex meteorology-precursor interactions, has become a critical air quality crisis. A longstanding challenge in O3 pollution mitigation is identifying drivers of O3 formation and its response to precursor emissions. Using explainable ensemble machine learning, scenario-based modeling and empirical kinetic modeling approach, we quantified O3 formation drivers and evaluated scenario-dependent responses to integrated/sectoral precursor emission reductions across multiple dynamic scenarios. We demonstrate that tempe

Orbital tightening assessment to evaluate pain and physical discomfort in chlorine-exposed rats: A machine learning based measurement approach.

Noxious chemicals like chlorine induce extreme distress, pain, and irritation in exposed individuals, yet methods to evaluate pain-related behavioral responses are absent. It is also unknown whether analgesics would alleviate pain and physical discomfort induced by such noxious chemicals. The grimace scale (GS), which evaluates facial expression features such as orbital tightening (OT), is a valuable indicator of pain and distress in animals. However, conventional GS approaches are labor-intensive, prone to subjectivity, and lack quantitative precision. In this study, we employed machine learn

Nutritional predictors of lymphatic filariasis progression: Insights from a machine learning approach.

Lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a mosquito-borne neglected tropical disease that causes disfiguring of the affected extremities, often leading to permanent disability and stigma. Described as a disease of poverty, the impact of socioeconomic indicators such as nutrition on LF remains largely unexplored. This cross-sectional study investigates nutritional predictors implicated in the progression of LF using machine learning methods in the Ahanta West Municipality, Ghana. There were 109 participants with a mean age of 50.72±13.8, and three-quarters being females. Only 14 (12.8%) each had comorbidit

Revolutionizing cardiovascular disease classification through machine learning and statistical methods.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) include abnormal conditions of the heart, diseased blood vessels, structural problems of the heart, and blood clots. Traditionally, CVD has been diagnosed by clinical experts, physicians, and medical specialists, which is expensive, time-consuming, and requires expert intervention. On the other hand, cost-effective digital diagnosis of CVD is now possible because of the emergence of machine learning (ML) and statistical techniques. METHOD: In this research, extensive studies were carried out to classify CVD via 19 promising ML models. To evaluate the

Competition between Mononuclear and Binuclear Copper Sites across Different Zeolite Topologies.

A key challenge for metal-exchanged zeolites is the determination of metal cation speciation and nuclearity under synthesis and reaction conditions. Copper-exchanged zeolites, which are widely used in automotive emissions control and potential catalysts for partial methane oxidation, have in particular evidenced a wide variety of Cu structures that are observed to change with exposure conditions, zeolite composition, and topology. Here, we develop predictive models for Cu cation speciation and nuclearity in CHA, MOR, BEA, AFX, and FER zeolite topologies using interatomic potentials, quantum ch

Identifying novel and potent inhibitors of EGFR protein for the drug development against the breast cancer.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been shown to be extremely important in numerous signaling pathways, particularly those involved in cancer progression. Many therapeutic inhibitors, consisting of both small molecules and monoclonal antibodies, have been developed to target inflammatory, triple-negative and metastatic breast cancer. With the emergence of resistance in breast cancer treatment strategies, there is a need to develop novel drug targets that not only overcome resistance, but also exhibit low toxicity and high specificity. The work presented here focuses on the identif

Grading the Severity of Damage to the Perijunctional Actomyosin Ring and Zonula Occludens-1 of the Corneal Endothelium by Ensemble Learning Methods.

Purpose: In many epithelia, including the corneal endothelium, intracellular/extracellular stresses break down the perijunctional actomyosin ring (PAMR) and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) at the apical junctions. This study aims to grade the severity of damage to PAMR and ZO-1 through machine learning. Methods: Immunocytochemical images of PAMR and ZO-1 were drawn from recent studies on the corneal endothelium subjected to hypothermia and oxidative stress. The images were analyzed for their morphological (e.g., Hu moments) and textural features (based on gray-level co-occurrence matrix [GLCM] and G

Predicting Intraoperative Hypothermia Burden during Non-Cardiac Surgery: A Retrospective Study Comparing Regression to Six Machine Learning Algorithms.

BACKGROUND: Inadvertent intraoperative hypothermia is a common complication that affects patient comfort and morbidity. As the development of hypothermia is a complex phenomenon, predicting it using machine learning (ML) algorithms may be superior to logistic regression. METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective study and assembled a feature set comprised of 71 variables. The primary outcome was hypothermia burden, defined as the area under the intraoperative temperature curve below 37 °C over time. We built seven prediction models (logistic regression, extreme gradient boosting (XG

The Diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure Based on Generalized Multiscale Entropy-Wavelet Leaders.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a chronic heart condition associated with debilitating symptoms that can lead to mortality. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a noninvasive and simple diagnostic method that can show detectable changes in CHF. However, manual diagnosis of ECG signals is often erroneous due to the small amplitude and duration of the ECG signals. This paper presents a CHF diagnosis method based on generalized multiscale entropy (MSE)-wavelet leaders (WL) and extreme learning machine (ELM). Firstly, ECG signals from normal sinus rhythm (NSR) and congestive heart failure (CHF) patien
