PURPOSE: To evaluate a new hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) with photochromic properties in vitro and in vivo in a rabbit model.

Enucleated human eye globes were set-up for measurements of pressure (2-100 mmHg) induced tangential epithelial and endothelial side corneal strain, and for measurements of central corneal thickness and central radius of curvature. PURPOSE: To review 6-month outcomes for patients with hypotony secondary to anterior proliferative vitreoretinopathy after previous retinal detachment repair who were treated with endoscopic vitrectomy and anterior membrane dissection.
METHODS: Retrospective review. All individuals underwent endoscopic vitrectomy with removal of anterior proliferative vitreoretinopathy involving the ciliary body. Outcome measurements included intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuity, and development of phthisis bulbi.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the potential usefulness of HIV-2 viral vector in in vivo retinal gene therapy.
METHODS: An HIV-2 virus based viral vector was constructed and administered subretinally and intravitreally into rabbit eyes. After viral vector administration, the eyes were closely monitored for any adverse effects by slit lamp, indirect ophthalmoscopy, and fundus photography. Eyes were enucleated at specified times after injection, and reporter gene expression was identified within cell types and graded by the pattern and distribution of staining cells using fluorescent microscopy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Any trauma to a corneal transplanted eye is likely to lacerate the corneal wound because of persistent wound weakness, even years after keratoplasty. We evaluate the risks and consequences of trauma after penetrating keratoplasty (PKP).

Expulsive hemorrhage is a catastrophic complication of intraocular surgery that can result in total loss of vision. Suprachoroidal effusion and hemorrhage may precede the development of expulsive hemorrhage; however, the relationship remains unclear. After sedation with intravenous pentobarbital sodium, 11 rabbits were given lactated Ringer's solution and heparin sodium intravenously. Ocular diseases are an important category in equine medicine; however, most articles regarding histologic ocular lesions in horses are exclusive to a specific condition and do not provide a complete review of clinically significant ocular disease frequency in a diagnostic laboratory. Between 1989 and 1995 nine Great Danes were presented to the small animal clinic of the University of Zurich Teaching Hospital with glaucoma and multiple cysts in the anterior and posterior chamber. In four of the nine dogs cysts were present in both eyes; however, bilateral glaucoma was seen in one case only.
