Complications of the intragastric balloon treatment. Small bowel obstruction caused by migrated intragastric balloon - clinical case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: An endoscopic intragastric balloon (IGB) placement is one of the minimally invasive methods of obesity treatment. One of the rare serious complications is mechanical bowel obstruction requiring operative management. We report a case of a male patient with small bowel obstruction due to IGB migration and the literature review of complications during IGB treatment. Detailed Case Description: A patient with a BMI of 28 kg/m2 was admitted to the hospital with spontaneous deflation of an IGB. Due to the suspected location of IGB in the ileum laparoscopy was performed. The enterotomy w

Catheter Tip Migration in Female Patients With Breast Cancer: A Retrospective Comparative Study of Right- and Left-Sided Chest Ports.

Introduction: Chest ports are typically inserted via the right internal jugular vein with the left side being utilized in certain patient populations. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dynamic position of the chest port and catheter tip, comparing a demographically matched cohort of female breast cancer patients with right- or left-sided chest ports. Methods: 142 female patients with breast cancer requiring chest port insertion for chemotherapy and imaging confirming catheter tip position initially with supine fluoroscopy and follow-up with erect chest radiography over a 5-year per

Migration of a Fish Bone From the Esophagus to the Thyroid Gland.

Accidental swallowing of fish bone is one of the most common emergencies in the otolaryngology department. The impacted fish bones are usually found in the palatine tonsil, base of the tongue, valleculae, pyriform sinus, and esophagus, which can be successfully removed after a thorough examination. However, in some cases, the fish bone may penetrate into the neck soft tissue and migrate to extraluminal organs, causing infection, abscess formation, or rupture of vessels. In such cases, prompt recognition and immediate removal of the impacted fish bone are necessary. Herein, we report a rare cas

Micro-snare retrieval as bail-out technique for a distally migrated WEB-device: A case report.

Intra-procedural intrasaccular device migration is an uncommon complication of endovascular treatment of wide-neck aneurysms. We report the case of a 52-years old Caucasian male who presented with a 3 × 3 mm posterior facing top of the basilar aneurysm in which treatment with WEB-SL (Woven EndoBridge-single layer) device was tempted. Inadvertent WEB migration in the right posterior cerebral artery occurred after detachment. Two retrieval attempts were performed using a combined technique with two different stent-retrievers and a 5-Fr distal access catheter. Upon WEBectomy attempt, the device r

Use of Point-of-Care Ultrasound to Assess and Guide Renal Stent Repositioning in the Pediatric Emergency Department.

Point-of-care ultrasound can be used as an assessment tool during the evaluation of children with renal colic. We discuss the case of a 7-year-old girl presenting to the pediatric emergency department with left flank pain, vomiting, and urinary incontinence status post-left renal stent placement. Renal ultrasound revealed ureteral obstruction caused by renal stent displacement. Point-of-care ultrasound performed by pediatric emergency department physicians was used to assess renal stent location, repositioning, and confirmation of the new location by the urology team. We discuss the role of tr

Intravesical Extrusion of a Single-Incision Midurethral Sling Anchor With a Simple Transurethral Resection Technique: A Case Report.

Single-incision midurethral slings were introduced in 2006 with the goal of providing shorter operative time, less postoperative pain, and decreased rates of injury to surrounding structures (eg, bladder and/or obturator nerve). Although unrecognized bladder injury during SIMS placement is a rare complication, it can lead to irritative voiding symptoms and recurrent urinary tract infections. We present the case of minimally invasive approach to remove an extruded sling.

The suction-assisted endoscopic suture technique: A simple method for endotracheal suturing.

BACKGROUND: Silicone stents are commonly employed to treat subglottic stenosis. A frequent complication is the tendency of stents to migrate. As such, various techniques to secure stents have been developed over the years, none of which have gained large popularity. We present a novel, low-cost, and easy-to-perform technique herein. OBJECTIVES: To describe a novel surgical technique to secure silicone stents and prevent migration for management of subglottic stenosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After standard excision and dilation of stenotic portions in the subglottic or trachea. A silicone ste

Life-threatening Double-J stent migration with helicoidal appearance: Length matters.

BACKGROUND: The Double-J stent is one of the most commonly used devices in urologic practice. Due to its widespread use, numerous common complications have been reported, such as irritative symptoms, infection, and encrustation. More rare complications have also been described, such as up or downward migration and displacement outside the urinary tract. We present a rare case of downward migration of a Double-J stent in a 21-year-old Caucasian female. CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old female with a solitary kidney presented to the emergency department with acute renal failure, left flank pain,

Retrograde Pancreatic Duct Stent Migration into the Biliary Tract Presenting as a Rare Early Complication of Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple Procedure).

BACKGROUND Pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure) is an established surgical procedure for the treatment of carcinoma of the head of the pancreas. Modifications to this procedure include gastropancreaticoduodenectomy, which includes the removal of parts of the pancreas, duodenum, and stomach. Complications of surgery include fistula formation, failure of the anastomosis, and leak of pancreatic enzymes, which can be reduced by stenting the pancreatic duct. This report is of a rare complication of pancreaticoduodenectomy and describes a case of retrograde migration of a pancreatic duct sten

Successful retrieval of a migrated neonatal ductal stent and strategies to reposition the expanded stent in the duct.

A neonatal ductal stent deployed in a straight short conical duct on second postnatal day migrated owing to inadequate ductal constriction. It was successfully retrieved using a larger balloon and redeployed in the duct again. Intravenous indomethacin prevented further stent migration. This is the first report of successful transcatheter retrieval and repositioning of a migrated expanded neonatal ductal stent.

Significant cephalad lead migration with use of externally powered spinal cord stimulator.

Spinal cord stimulation has been an effective therapy for treatment of chronic low back pain over the last four decades. Over the years, there have been significant technological advances in the neuromodulation devices. Externally powered neuromodulation devices, that do not require an internal pulse generator (IPG) implantation, have recently been approved for treatment of chronic pain and the data on potential pitfalls and unforeseen complications with these devices is minimal. Here, we report a case of a 60-year-old woman with chronic back pain who underwent the implantation of one of such

Migration of clips to the colon after laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.

A 78-year-old man was treated with laparoscopic partial nephrectomy for a 4 cm tumour in the lower pole of the left kidney. The patient was discharged 2 days postoperatively. Preoperatively there was no sign of metastasis; the pathology indicated complete removal of the tumour, a renal cell carcinoma. 53 days postoperatively the patient had acute onset of rectal bleeding. A colonoscopy revealed necrosis and three clips on the wall of the colon corresponding to where the descending colon passes over the left kidney. The patient was treated conservatively. Clip migration has been reported previo

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band Slippage Rates Following Laparoscopic Gastric Band Insertion: a Single Centre Experience.

INTRODUCTION: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric bands (LAGB) are placed around the superior aspect of the stomach to aid weight loss and co-morbidity resolution in morbidly obese patients. Slippage of the LAGB from its original position to lower in the fundus of the stomach leads to gastric obstruction, and sometimes ischaemia or perforation, necessitating LAGB repositioning or removal. This study aimed to identify the incidence of LAGB slippage, as well as predisposing factors that may influence its development. METHODS: All LAGBs inserted at one centre, via a pars flaccida technique, by four
