INTRODUCTION: This study was developed to evaluate the situation of leprosy in the general population of the municipality of Buriticupu, State of Maranhão, Brazil.
METHODS: We used the method of active search to identify new cases from 2008 to 2010. Bacilloscopy of intradermal scrapings was performed in all patients with skin lesions compatible with leprosy, and histopathological examination in those who had doubts on the definition of the clinical form.

In the last few years interest in the clinical aspects of Olea europaea (O.e.) pollen allergy has increased. For many years we have observed in our geographical area a perennial pattern of clinical symptoms in subjects with monosensitization to O.e. allergens without any worsening during the olive pollen season. OBJECTIVE: In the present study we introduced a simple test for quantifying the decreased axon reflex flare response in the clinical routine.

Cutaneous alternariosis is rare. Most infections occur in immunocompromised hosts. We report the first three cases in Taiwan. The patients were elderly farmers residing in Tainan. Radionucleotide scanning with colloidal 198Au and 99Tc sulfur colloid was used to evaluate preoperative and postoperative lymphatic drainage in 10 patients with primary malignant melanoma of the trunk. "Tokyo 172" BCG vaccine designed for percutaneous inoculation is widely used in Japan. This vaccine is a much higher concentration of M. bovis BCG than that of the BCG vaccine designed for intradermal inoculation widely used in other countries. A patient who suffered from an ulcerous skin lesion as a result of the intradermal injection of "Tokyo 172" BCG vaccine accidentally was referred to our hospital. Systemic corticosteroid was administered with anti-tuberculous drugs, achieving a complete improvement of the skin lesion.

After concomitant administration of purified chick embryo cell rabies vaccine and Japanese encephalitis vaccine to toddlers, adequate rabies and Japanese encephalitis virus neutralizing antibodies concentrations were demonstrated by day 49, 7 days after a booster at 1 year, and in the majorly at 3 years postvaccination. The inclusion of rabies vaccine in the expanded program on immunization should be considered in rabies endemic countries.
