To document the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in Waldeyer's ring (WR) and the sinonasal (SN) region, and to identify any differences between lymphatic and extra-lymphatic DLBCLs, and predictors of disease beyond the neck. Primary, nodal, and multifocal sites on head and neck MRI were compared between 31 WR and 15 SN DLBCL, and between 27 patients with disease confined to the head and neck and 16 patients with disease beyond the neck, using logistic regression. Compared to SN, WR DLBCLs had significantly smaller primary tumour volumes (p = 0.

Composite lymphoma (CL) refers to the presence of two or more distinct types of lymphomas in a single organ or tissue. CL is an infrequent finding and may be due to the existence of two genetically related neoplasms, i.e. transformation of a single lymphoma into another lymphoma, or be due to the presence of two clonally unrelated lymphomas. CL composed of more than two lymphomas is even rare. Herein we describe a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) arising in a CL of follicular lymphoma (FL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) in an inguinal lymph node of an 85 year old woman. The

AIMS: Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) is a slowly progressing neoplasm with a favourable prognosis. However, in a minority of cases (3-12%) it progresses to a clonally related diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), diagnosed between 6 months and 24 years after NLPHL. This study investigated six cases of NLPHL and DLBCL at the same location.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The patients were five men and one woman. In four cases, the site was an axillary lymph node, and in two it was inguinal. In all cases, NLPHL areas had typical morphological and immunophenotypic features. DLBCL

Sphingolipids serve an important role as effector molecules in signaling pathways bearing on apoptosis and cell survival. The balance between proapoptotic ceramide and prosurvival sphingosine-1-phosphate, sometimes termed the "sphingolipid rheostat," has received particular attention. Less well studied is the role of the follicular lymphoma variant translocation 1 (FVT1) gene, which was identified through its involvement in an atypical follicular lymphoma translocation and which encodes an enzyme in the synthetic pathway of ceramide. We investigated the expression of FVT1 in a variety of B-cel

A loss of FAS (CD95) function has been proposed to constitute an important step in early mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma development and FAS mutations have been recognized in malignant lymphomas, in particular at extranodal sites. Since primary gastric lymphomas frequently exhibit resistance to FAS-mediated apoptosis, we investigated whether FAS is mutated in 18 gastric MALT lymphomas and 28 diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL). We detected seven mutations in five lymphomas, one MALT lymphoma and four DLBCL; two DLBCL had two mutations. The MALT lymphoma exhibited a point m

UNLABELLED: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) constitute two distinct subtypes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. Marked diversities with regard to molecular biology and clinical features are recognized in different subsets of the two lymphomas. Because these differences could be related to the location of the lymphoma, it is of interest to investigate the clinical and histopathological features of DLBCL and MCL involving the ocular adnexal region (i.e. the orbit, eyelids, conjunctiva, lacrimal gland and lacrim

BACKGROUND: Data on composite and sequential lymphoma between primary mediastinal lymphoma/diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) and classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) are rare.
METHODS: We identified 25 cases with composite lymphoma (CL), 116 cases developing LBCL as a second primary cancer after cHL (cHL-LBCL), and 74 cases developing cHL as a second primary cancer after LBCL (LBCL-cHL) from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) 18 database. Comparisons of overall survival (OS) and lymphoma cause-specific survival (CSS) between patients with cHL-LBCL or cHL-LBCL and their de n

B-cell lymphomas with concurrent IGH-BCL2 and MYC rearrangements, also known as "double-hit" lymphomas (DHL), are rare neoplasms characterized by highly aggressive clinical behavior, complex karyotypes, and a spectrum of pathologic features overlapping with Burkitt lymphoma (BL), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and B-lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukemia (B-LBL). The clinical and pathologic spectrum of this rare entity, including comparison to other high-grade B-cell neoplasms, has not been well defined. We conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical and pathologic features of 20 cases of D

INTRODUCTION: Although non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is one of the most common and frequently fatal of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome-defining illnesses, survival has improved significantly since the introduction of antiretroviral therapy. Patients with spinal cord compression resulting from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma present with clinically acute or rapidly progressive neurologic deficits. The purpose of this case report is to present a case of a patient seropositive for human immunodeficiency virus with spinal cord compression due to B-cell lymphoma, unclassifiable, with features intermediate

Lymphoma of the prostate is rare whether it is primary extranodal lymphoma or secondary involvement of the prostate by primary lymphoma elsewhere. Of all the lymphomas of the prostate, primary lymphomas of the prostrate are very rare. Although less frequent, it should be a differential diagnosis when evaluating prostate tumors. Here, we report a case of a 61-year-old man who presented with hematuria with clot retention. A cystoscopy with clot removal and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed. This biopsy was sent for histopathological examination at an external center, w

Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) displays peculiar clinicopathological characteristics, but its molecular landscape is not fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the clinicopathological and molecular features of 54 patients with HCV-associated DLBCL. The median age was 71 years. An underlying marginal zone lymphoma component was detected in 14.8% of cases. FISH analysis showed rearrangements involving BCL6 in 50.9% of cases, MYC in 11.3% and BCL2 in 3.7%. Lymph2Cx-based assay was successful in 38 cases, recognizing 16 cases (42.1%) as ABC and 1

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathological features and flow cytometry (FCM) of tumor tissues in ocular adnexal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
METHODS: This retrospective, multicenter case study was designed to evaluate the clinical and immunohistochemical features of tumors. DLBCL was diagnosed based on histopathology, immunoglobulin (Ig) heavy chain gene rearrangement, and FCM in all surgically removed periocular tumor tissues. This study involved assessing percentages (%) of B-cell/T-cell markers, a natural killer cell marker, and cell-surface Ig kappa/l

INTRODUCTION: Novel treatment options are needed to improve outcomes in transplant-ineligible relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This systematic literature review evaluated clinical evidence on treatments for patients with R/R DLBCL ineligible for, or relapsed following, stem cell transplantation.
METHODS: We assessed the feasibility of conducting an indirect treatment comparison (ITC) or network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the relative efficacy and safety of polatuzumab vedotin in combination with bendamustine + rituximab versus other relevant treatments.

Primary urethral non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) is uncommon. This case study reports the case of a 52-year-old woman with a light red mass at the urethral orifice. Her clinical manifestations included frequent urination, urgency, dysuria, and occasionally blood in urine. The tumor was surgically removed, and the pathological and immunohistochemistry examination confirmed the presence of a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Examination using positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) revealed multiple hypermetabolic lymph nodes next to the external iliac vessels and bilateral i

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) accounts for approximately 30% of the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients. The underlying molecular mechanism of its pathogenesis is not well defined and the survival rate of DLBCL patients is very low. Moreover, the annual incidence and mortality of DLBCL is still rising. Accordingly, identification and characterization of new molecular pathways of DLBCL will lead to the development of novel diagnostic markers and molecular therapeutic targets. Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNA) are non-coding RNAs with a length greater than 200 bp in eukaryotic cells, which can r

The updated edition of the Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues, published in September 2017 by the World Health Organization (WHO), presents many important changes to the document published in 2008. Most of these novelties are linked to the exceptional development of biomolecular techniques during the last 10 years. To illustrate how much new technologies have contributed to the better classification of single entities, as well as the discovery of new ones, would go beyond the objectives of this work. For this reason, we will take diffuse large B-cell lymphoma as a

BACKGROUND: International guidelines suggest hepatitis C virus (HCV) eradication by direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) after first-line immunochemotherapy (I-CT) in patients with HCV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), although limited experiences substantiate this recommendation. Moreover, only a few data concerning concurrent administration of DAAs with I-CT have been reported.
SUBJECTS, MATERIALS, AND METHODS: We analyzed hematological and virological outcome and survival of 47 consecutive patients with HCV-positive DLBCL treated at 23 Italian and French centers with DAAs either c

Gene expression profiling has recently enabled the reclassification of aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas (aNHL) into distinct subgroups. In Burkitt lymphoma (BL) aberrant c-Myc activity results from IG-MYC translocations. However, MYC aberrations are not limited to BLs and then have a negative prognostic impact. In this study, we investigated to which extent aberrant c-Myc activity plays a functional role in other aNHL and whether it is independent from MYC translocations. Based on a combined microarray analysis of human germinal center (GC) B cells transfected with c-Myc and 220 aNHLs cases, w
