BACKGROUND: Surgical removal of the uterus during pregnancy or immediately post-partum is called peripartum hysterectomy. It can be pre-planned as an elective or performed as an emergency life-saving procedure for severe hemorrhage. Although rare, it is a catastrophic event leading to severe maternal morbidity and a prolonged recovery period. Besides the well-documented acute and subacute sequelae, perpartum hysterectomy may produce long-lasting physical, social, and psychological impacts.

BACKGROUND: The fact that tuberculosis can be treated with the DOTS strategy (Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course) is not enough to control the disease. Patients have to find their way to tuberculosis treatment first. To better understand the route to tuberculosis treatment in rural Nepal we interviewed twenty-six patients under treatment.

This article presents the results of a previously unexplored aspect of qualitative leg ulcer research. The study has examined the lived experience and cultural illness explanations of a sample of British-Indian patients living with leg and foot ulceration. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 16 Indian patients drawn from leg ulcer clinics and district nursing lists in Ealing Primary Care Trust and Hounslow Primary Care Trust.
