BACKGROUND: Low-grade gastric MALT lymphoma is an uncommon tumour for which a close association with chronic Helicobacter pylori infection has been suggested. However, given the rarity of MALT lymphoma of the stomach despite the high prevalence of H. pylori infection, it seems plausible that genetic host factors might play a fundamental role in gastric lymphomagenesis.

Although endometrial adenocarcinoma is usually treated with surgery, patients with metastatic disease have a poor prognosis. To address the need for better treatment options, molecularly targeted drug therapies are being developed. The data for 19 patients with solitary plasmacytoma of the spine were reviewed with regard to clinical course and prognosis (median follow-up, 96 months). Eight patients presented with spinal cord compression. A monoclonal immunoglobulin was initially detected in seven of 15 evaluable patients. Treatment included radiotherapy (18 of 19) and/or surgery (11 of 19) and chemotherapy (eight of 19). Spinal cord compression was reversed in every patient. Muir-Torre syndrome patients have multiple visceral malignancies along with cutaneous sebaceous tumors and keratoacanthomas. We describe a history of a 64-year-old male patient with 13 tumours, who survived 13 years. The initial ascending colon adenocarcinoma was followed by some different tumors of the skin: adenoma and carcinoma of sebaceous glands, epidermoid and basaloid carcinoma and other benign tumors. Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata is a very rare disorder. The number of cases documented in the literature is only 44. Of these cases, only one was in the postmenopausal period. We report a new case of leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata in a postmenopausal woman.

In a blue fox farm about 300 of 400 weanling pups were affected with diarrhoea and prolapse of the rectum. About 40 pups died in an emaciated state after a few days of disease. Eight pups were submitted for examination. Pathological findings were restricted to the caecum, proximal colon and rectum, with occasional extension to the ileum. Affected areas revealed a thick and rigid intestinal wall, a narrow lumen and a thickened, wrinkled and sometimes ulcerated mucosa. Histologically, the mucosa showed long tortuous crypts outlined by a high pseudostratified epithelium which lacked goblet cells.

Fifty-four patients with upper urinary tract urothelial tumors were treated from 1966 to 1975 at the Urologische Klinik und Poliklinik der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. We investigated the incidence of associated bladder tumor and prognosis in 101 cases with a pathological diagnosis of transitional cell carcinoma, selected from those with renal pelvic and ureteral tumor whom we had encountered over the 18 years between April 1976 and March 1993. Among these 101 cases, the incidence of associated bladder tumor was noted in 42 (41.6%), 23 (22.8%) with coexistence and 19 (18.8%) with subsequence. Multiple primary cancers in a single individual are rare when more than three distinct lesions are considered. This article reports a patient who developed four separate primary cancers: squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx, squamous carcinoma of the lung, adenocarcinoma of the breast, and adenocarcinoma of the colon. No specific hereditary syndrome could be identified from this patient's pedigree. Individuals with a history of multiple cancers should have a complete family history evaluation and follow-up for development of subsequent primaries.
