Lichen aureus with pseudolymphomatous infiltrate.

Lichen aureus is a variant of pigmented purpuric dermatoses. The usual histopathology of lichen aureus is characterized by a subepidermal dense, band-like lymphocytic infiltrate, extravasated erythrocytes, and hemosiderin deposits. We report three patients with lichen aureus on the extremities with similar clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings characterized by a dense band-like relatively deep dermal infiltrate accompanied by extravasation of erythrocytes and hemosiderin deposits occasioning a resemblance to a lymphoproliferative disorder.

Co-occurrence of Erythrosis Pigmentosa Mediofacialis and Erythromelanosis Follicularis Faciei et Colli Associated with Keratosis Pilaris in an Adolescent Female.

Erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli (EFFC) is a rare disease characterized by a triad of reddish-brown pigmentation, erythema and follicular papules localized on face and neck and is usually described in males. Erythrosis pigmentosa mediofacialis (also known as Brocq or erythrosis pigmentosa peribuccalis) is a similar disorder of the mediofacial area but with female predominance. We report a case of simultaneous occurrence of erythrosis pigmentosa peribuccalis and EFFC associated with keratosis pilaris in an adolescent female.

Punctate inner choroidopathy and its differential diagnosis.

The diagnosis of chorioretinal diseases largely depends on their clinical presentation rather than etiologic or systemic investigations. We report on a patient whose examination revealed a peculiar fundus pattern, almost completely different from disorders such as multifocal choroiditis, presumed ocular histoplasmosis, myopic degeneration, acute multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy, vitiliginous chorioretinitis, and punctate outer retinal toxoplasmosis. It resembled punctate inner choroidopathy, described by Watzke in 1984.

Reticular pigmented anomaly of the flexures.

Reticular pigmented anomaly of the flexures (Dowling-Degos' anomaly) is a rare, benign, new genodermatosis that has recently evolved from independent observations and studies by several dermatologists. Because of its favorable prognosis, differentiation of this benign disorder from acanthosis nigricans, a cutaneous marker of possible or existing internal malignant disease, is highly important. Careful clinical appraisal of the eruption in correlation with the characteristic microscopic features makes the diagnosis simple and straightforward.

Recent advances in gene delivery for melanocyte-associated disorders.

Melanocytes are cells that produce the pigment melanin, which provides color to the skin, eyes, and hair. Dysregulation in melanocyte function, viability, or differentiation can result in melanocyte-associated disorders that can be broadly classified based on etiology as melanocyte hyperproliferation and hyperactivation, defects in melanin synthesis, inflammatory alterations in melanin production/trafficking, melanocyte destruction, and defects in melanocyte migration. While most of these disorders are of benign origin, the cosmetic implications of these conditions are associated with signific

Neuropsychological and Social Characteristics of a 7 Year Old Child with Hypomelanosis of Ito Followed for 11 Years.

Hypomelanosis of Ito (HI) is a neurocutaneous disorder associated with central nervous system abnormalities, including speech delay and intellectual disability. The long term neuropsychological and social characteristics of these children are unknown. Neuropsychological observations and parental reports were obtained yearly on a child with HI from ages 7 to 18 years. Serial measures of intelligence revealed stable verbal and perceptual reasoning scores with later improvements in working memory and processing speed performance. Speech articulation improved at age 12, as did the speed of right-h

Dermoscopic criteria of discoid lupus erythematosus: An observational cross-sectional study of 28 patients.

BACKGROUND: Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) affects mainly the head and neck and lesions heal with scaring. Early diagnosis of DLE is crucial; dermoscopy may enable early diagnosis and help to assess the prognosis of well-established lesions. AIMS: To describe the dermoscopic features of DLE and to correlate them with the histological findings, site and duration of DLE. MATERIAL AND METHOD: This study included 28 patients diagnosed as DLE based on clinical and histopathological examination. We examined the lesions clinically, dermoscopically and histopathologically. Evaluated dermoscopic v

Do oxidative stress and melanin accumulation contribute to the pathogenesis of idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis: A prospective case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress parameters have been reported to be significantly higher than controls in diverse disorders of pigmentation but no such data seem to be extant for IGH. OBJECTIVES: To verify whether heightened oxidative stress levels are seen in patients with IGH (compared with matched controls) and quantify the same in blood using appropriate biochemical markers. Further, an attempt to determine if there might be any correlation between the amount of oxidative stress and the severity of the disease. METHODOLOGY: This prospective case-control study was conducted in Northern India

[Yellowish psoriasis revealing dermal lipomatous metaplasia].

INTRODUCTION: Dermal lipomatous metaplasia is a particular histological presentation characterized by the presence of mature fat cells in the dermis. It is found in the tissue stroma of certain skin tumours and in a single reported case of psoriasis, imparting an orange-yellow tint. Herein we report a second case of this type. PATIENTS AND METHODS: An 82-year-old woman was consulting for an extensive, rapidly spreading psoriasis flare-up that had appeared 3 months earlier. Her psoriasis had been present for 30 years and had rarely been treated. The clinical examination revealed orange-yellow

The color of skin: yellow diseases of the skin, nails, and mucosa.

The colors reflected from the skin are important indicators of dermatologic and systemic disorders. Incident light is subject to absorption by chromophores in the skin and scattering. Chromophores associated with yellow light reflection include the carotenoids and bilirubin. Various pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with these and other chromophores manifest with a yellow hue on examination. This review describes these mechanisms and the clinical features of yellow skin disorders by morphology. A brief summary of the differential diagnosis, laboratory investigations, and treatments are pr
