Congenital absence of the juncturae tendini contributing to dislocation of the extensor tendons.

We report a patient with bilateral congenital absence of the juncturae tendini who developed dislocation of the extensor tendons of the long and ring fingers of both hands. Reconstruction of the juncturae tendini restored extensor function. We describe our technique and the results 9 months after surgery.

Peroneal subluxation: a comprehensive review of the literature with case presentations.

Subluxation of the peroneal tendons is a rare injury that is often misdiagnosed. This injury is usually related to and often accompanied by lateral ankle ligament sprains. A comprehensive review of the literature, as well as two cases of surgically treated subluxing peroneal tendons will be presented. Anatomy, etiology, and diagnosis will be discussed. Both conservative and surgical treatment methodology will be discussed in detail.

Injuries at the myotendinous junction.

The complete role of the myotendinous junction is discussed in this article. The morphology and function of the junction, typical injuries occurring at this region, delayed-onset muscle soreness, and muscle strain injury are described. Muscle strain injury is covered in detail, including characterization, treatment, and prevention. Clinical information is conveyed as well as basic science study results pertinent to the clinical situation.

Chronic ulnar wrist pain secondary to partial rupture of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon.

An unusual case of symptomatic partial rupture of the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon after trauma is described. The patient was successfully treated by surgical removal of a prominent ulnar ridge, debridement of the ECU tendon, and ECU subsheath reconstruction. Extensor carpi ulnaris subluxation and partial rupture should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a patient with chronic ulnar wrist pain.

Ochronotic stenosing flexor tenosynovitis--case report.

Localized deposition of ochronotic pigment in the flexor digitorum profundus tendons was associated with triggering of the fingers in one patient. The case history and histologic studies suggest that repetitive trauma might be a major factor in initiating a localized reaction enhancing pigment deposition in the flexor tendon.

Chronic quadriceps tendon rupture: quadriceps tendon reconstruction using ipsilateral semitendinosus tendon graft.

Ruptures of the quadriceps tendon (QTRs) are uncommon. If the rupture is not diagnosed, chronic ruptures may develop. Re-ruptures of the quadriceps tendon are rare. Surgery is challenging because of tendon retraction, atrophy and poor quality of the remaining tissue. Multiple surgical techniques have been described. We propose a novel technique in which the quadriceps tendon is reconstructed using the ipsilateral semitendinosus tendon.

Primary augmentation of percutaneous repair with flexor hallucis longus tendon for Achilles tendon ruptures reduces tendon elongation and may improve functional outcome.

PURPOSE: Achilles tendon ruptures (ATR) result in loss of strength and function of the gastrosoleus-Achilles tendon complex, probably because of gradual tendon elongation and calf muscle atrophy, even after surgical repair. Flexor hallucis longus (FHL) augmentation not only reinforces the repair and provides new blood supply to the tendon, but also protects the repair, internally splinting the repaired Achilles tendon, maintaining optimal tension. We prospectively compared the clinical outcomes of patients with acute ATR, managed with either percutaneous repair only or percutaneous repair and

[Simplified active motion protocol following Extensor indicis to Extensor pollicis longus tendon transfer using a side-to-side suture].

BACKGROUND: Ruptures of the Extensor pollicis longus tendon are commonly treated by Extensor indicis transfer using Pulvertaft suture technique. Current literature does not yet give evidence for a preferable post-operative therapy protocol. A side-to-side suture technique is significantly stronger than the Pulvertaft repair technique and therefore allows an immediate active postoperative treatment. We present a new postoperative protocol, which is simple, fast and safe, and should make treatment easier for patients and therapists. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We treated 10 patients with a transfer o

Extensor indicis transfer versus palmaris longus transplantation in reconstruction of extensor pollicis longus tendon: a protocol for a systematic review.

This review will provide an overview of published data comparing transposition of the extensor indicis pollicis (EIP) tendon and palmaris longus (PL) tendon grafting in thumb extension reconstruction following loss of the extensor pollicis longus (EPL) tendon function. We will consider all studies comparing EIP and PL utilized to reconstruct thumb extension after injury/rupture of the EPL tendon. Only studies published in the English and German literature will be included. A systematic literature research will be performed across relevant health databases including the Cochrane Library, MEDLIN

Effect of supraspinatus tendon repair technique on the infraspinatus tendon.

Supraspinatus tendon tears are common and often propagate into larger tears that include the infraspinatus tendon, resulting in loss of function and increased pain. Previously, we showed that the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons mechanically interact through a range of rotation angles, potentially shielding the torn supraspinatus tendon from further injury while subjecting the infraspinatus tendon to increased risk of injury. Surgical repair of torn supraspinatus tendons is common, yet the effect of the repair on the infraspinatus tendon is unknown. Since we have established a relations

[Subcutaneous rupture of the extensor tendon of the fingers and its treatment].

The process used in 47 cases for treatment of subcutaneous rupture of the extensor tendon at the level of the third phalanx is described. This process of mixed type consists in making a temporary fixation of the third phalanx in slight extension on the second by means of the endomedullary infibulum, to which is added a plaster guardian with 60 degrees flexion of the interphalangeal for six weeks. After illustration of the method, a full set of cases is presented in demonstration of the perfect efficiency of the method through the good results obtained.

Sustained long-term functional and patient-reported outcomes after complete proximal hamstring repair.

PURPOSE: The purpose was to evaluate long-term functional outcomes, including patient-reported outcomes (PROs), strength recovery and complications, following surgical repair of complete proximal hamstring avulsions at a minimum 5-year follow-up. We hypothesised that patients would demonstrate sustained functional outcomes with minimal long-term strength deficits. METHODS: Patients undergoing surgical repair of complete proximal hamstring tendon avulsions at a single institution with ≥5-year follow-up were included. Bilateral injuries were excluded. Data collected included demographics, perio

The Profound Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Epidemiology of Quadriceps and Patellar Tendon Ruptures: Insights From a Single Trust in the United Kingdom.

Introduction Quadriceps and patellar tendon ruptures are uncommon but disabling injuries that require surgical repair. Changes in physical activity patterns during and after the COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced their occurrence. This study compares the incidence, demographics, and seasonal distribution of these injuries before and after the pandemic within a single UK NHS trust. Methods A retrospective review was performed of all patients undergoing primary repair of quadriceps or patellar tendon ruptures at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust from January 2014 to December 2024. The pre-
