The Skin Mycobiome of Patients With Atopic Dermatitis and Healthy Volunteers: A Case-Control Study.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disease, for which dysbiosis of the skin mycobiome is considered a triggering factor. The aim of this study was to explore the skin mycobiome of AD patients and healthy volunteers (HV). The study included 50 AD patients and as many HV. Culture-based species identification involved a battery of conventional phenotypic tests and PCR sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) 1 and 2 regions within the rDNA cluster. Culture-independent, metataxonomic sequencing was performed with ITS1 as the target region. The overall culture-positive

A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the association between atopic dermatitis and depression (1994-2024).

In recent decades, the prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) has dramatically risen due to modern environmental exposures and drastic lifestyle changes. Furthermore, many studies emphasize that the prevalence of mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, is much higher among patients with AD compared to the general population. Consequently, there is an urgent imperative to delve into emerging research trends and focal points concerning the association between AD and depression. By analyzing the literature on the correlation between AD and Depression in the Web of Science Core Collect

Identification and Validation of the Potential Key Biomarkers for Atopic Dermatitis Mitochondrion by Learning Algorithms.

PURPOSE: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin condition characterized by erythema and pruritus. Its precise pathogenesis remains unclear, though factors such as genetic predisposition, autoantigen response, allergen exposure, infections, and skin barrier dysfunction are involved. Research suggests a correlation between AD and mitochondrial dysfunction, as well as oxidative stress in skin tissues. METHODS: Skin sample datasets related to AD (GSE36842, GSE120721, GSE16161, and GSE121212) were retrieved from the GEO database. Differential gene analysis identified differentially e

Vitamin D and Atopic Dermatitis-A Mere Correlation or a Real Supportive Treatment Option?

Atopic dermatitis (AD), a common chronic inflammatory disease in children and adults, is often studied to find the best way to prevent or reduce its severity. One of the substances tested so far is vitamin D. The main aim of this paper was to determine whether vitamin D truly brings benefits to people with AD or whether its action is too insignificant to have clinical significance. The review covered articles-observational studies, several animal studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs)-available in the PubMed database and published after 2019. Full-text manuscripts in English were used

Efficacy of diagnostic testing for allergen sensitization in canine atopic dermatitis: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is an important cause of quality of life in dogs and their owners. There are different diagnostic tools to evaluate sensitization to allergens in CAD; however, there is little information to evaluate the clinical usefulness of these tests. METHODS: A systematic review aiming to assess the accuracy of allergen sensitization tests in CAD patients was performed. The search was planned, executed, and reported following PRISMA standards. The OVID®/MEDLINE, PubMed®, SciELO, and Redalyc databases were searched to find relevant studies comprising "diagnost

Perceived Readiness and Barriers to Self-Management in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis Patients and Parents.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with atopic dermatitis (AD) must transition from caregiver-led to self-managed care and eventually to adult healthcare providers. While transition readiness is well studied in other chronic conditions, it remains underexplored in AD. This study assesses transition readiness and perceived barriers to self-management among AYA with AD and parents of AYA. METHODS: A cross-sectional, online survey was conducted from June to July 2024 by the National Eczema Association among US-based AYA (ages 12-22) with AD and parents of AYA with AD. Transition read

Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition with no cure. Current conventional treatments can have many side effects or are expensive. Emerging evidence suggests leukotriene receptor antagonists could serve as a corticosteroid-sparing option. This meta-analysis examined 26 studies on the efficacy of leukotriene receptor antagonists for treating atopic dermatitis across 742 participants. There were non-significant reductions in atopic dermatitis severity overall. However, in subgroup analyses montelukast significantly reduced Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis scores in adult populations (

The Role of Fibroblasts in Atopic Dermatitis: Establishing Proinflammatory Microenvironments and Mediating Cellular Crosstalk.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by skin barrier dysfunction and dysregulation of the immune system. Previous studies have primarily focused on the roles of immune cells and keratinocytes (KCs) in AD. Fibroblasts (FBs) are stromal cells that produce extracellular matrix (ECM) and maintain its homeostasis. However, recent studies indicate that FBs can secrete cytokines and other mediators, thereby actively contributing to immune regulation and the propagation of inflammation. Furthermore, advances in single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics

Dupilumab-Induced Myalgia and Enthesitis in a Pediatric Patient Treated for Severe Atopic Dermatitis.

Dupilumab is a monoclonal antibody systemic therapy approved for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). It works by blocking the signaling pathways of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13). This case report describes a 10-year-old male with severe AD who developed myalgia and enthesitis suspected to be induced by dupilumab. The patient developed severe myalgia after a month of being on dupilumab, although his eczematous skin rash showed considerable improvement after treatment initiation. His pain was restricting movement and leading to contractures, which made him unable to walk o
