Diffuse vascular ectasia of the gastric antrum may present as occult gastrointestinal blood loss and iron-deficiency anemia. Four patients are described with iron-deficiency anemia in whom characteristic lesions were found at endoscopy. As in previous reports, lesions are either angioid linear streaking of the antrum with convergence at the pylorus ("watermelon stomach") or diffuse, well-demarcated erythematous areas. This is a report of a rarely observed occurrence of complication in Caroli's disease, i.e. the emergence of a cholangiocarcinoma in the course of the disease. There are 20 observations reported in the literature, and the hypotheses of pathogenesis set forth are reviewed. The frequency of a malignant transformation during the course of Caroli's disease is compared to the frequencies of other hepatic-biliary congenital cystic tumours. The excision of the cyst resulted in an appreciable period of survival for the patient.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) can no longer be considered as a single event, but as a series of episodes. In most of the cases, the initial event may be the induction of a severe spasm of the coronary artery by vasoconstrictive substance released from aggregated platelets. The target of this work was the determination of a quantifiable measurement of the ventricular dilatation with an index during the ultrasonographic supervision of intraventricular hemorrhages (IVH) in premature infants. An investigation by cerebral ultrasonography through the fontanelles was performed in 63 non hypotrophic prematures. Thirty-one children (mean gestational age 32 +/- 1.8 weeks) had an IVH. Angiographically equivocal aneurysmal dilatation at the junction of the internal carotid and the posterior communicating arteries was noted in a patient with documented subarachnoid hemorrhage. This was initially thought to be infundibular dilatation. A craniotomy revealed an actual aneurysm, which was obliterated successfully. Whether infundibular dilatation is a preaneurysmal state or a benign dilatation is controversial. The management of angiographically noted infundibular dilatation in cases of "essential" subarachnoid hemorrhage is discussed.

A 22% incidence of renal pelvis or calyceal "hot spot" anomalies was found incidental to routine bone scanning. The majority of these anomalies were due to bilateral or right renal pelvis visualization, and statistical analysis determined there to be a significant female incidence, and persistence in repeat studies. This suggests an anatomical or functional basis for this finding.

Stenosis in the right common iliac artery of a 61-year-old man was manifested as pain in the right leg and foot and cyanosis of the second and third toes. Dilatation of the lesion was performed using a Grüntzig catheter; arteriography and measurement of femoral artery pressure confirmed a successful result. The patient was pain free at six-month follow-up. Dilatation of stenoses by percutaneous transluminal angioplasty provides an alternative to conventional operative procedures, with lower cost and morbidity plus an acceptable success rate.

Ultrasound was found to be useful in the evaluation of jaundice. Extrahepatic obstruction can be diagnosed by the presence of dilated intra- or extrahepatic bile ducts. Using a high-resolution real-time mechanical sector scanner, it was possible to show the common hepatic duct as it passes anterior to the right portal vein in 98 out of 100 consecutive adults without biliary tract disease. At this level, the normal duct measures 4 mm or less in internal diameter. All patients with a duct larger than 5 mm thus far have had either biliary tract obstruction or previous cholecystectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy is commonly used in adjuvant treatment of colon cancer as well as in neoadjuvant setting in patients with liver metastases. However oxaliplatin can cause damage to non-tumor bearing liver which presents as sinusoidal obstructive syndrome (SOS). These changes are difficult to differentiate from metastasis clinic-radiologically and manifests as sinusoidal dilatation, peliosis and nodular regenerative hyperplasia.

AIMS: This study's aim is to present the specific ultrasonography (US) findings of a series of urachus anomalies.
