Pharmacogenetic testing in primary care could bolster depression treatment: A value proposition.

Pharmacogenetic testing could reduce the time to identify a safe and effective medication for depression; however, it is underutilized in pr … macogenetic testing for mental health medications through prescribers' real-world experiences using implementation science concepts and systematic interviews with prescribers and administrators from four health care systems. To identify a value proposition, we organized the themes according to the Triple Aim framework, a leading framework for health care policy which as …

Ethanol for the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Alcohol withdrawal is typically managed using benzodiazepines. However, modulation of both γ-aminobutyric acid-A and N-methyl-d-aspartate-receptors through ethanol provision may provide an alternative management strategy. This systematic review critically analyses the evidence surrounding the use of oral or intravenous ethanol for the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome. METHODS: Systematic searches of ProQuest - American Psychological Association, PsycInfo, MEDLINE and PubMed Central, Web of Science and Embase were performed (Prospero registration number: CRD42023425224).

High-resolution multi-modal imaging of sub-cellular structures with low numerical aperture objective.

Imaging of subcellular structures, which underpins many of the advances in biological and medical sciences, requires microscopes with high numerical aperture (N.A.) objectives which are costly, complex, requires oil immersion and have very limited field-of-view, typically covering a handful of cells. Here, we leverage a low N.A. objective to simultaneously capture scattering, phase, and fluorescence images of subcellular structures in breast cancer cells (BT-20) and observe nanoparticle uptake, with sub-diffraction-limited resolution (<400 nm with a 0.25 N.A. objective) utilizing a 2-dimension

Teaching second-year biochemistry students the principles of an enzyme-catalyzed spectrophotometric assay with an online lab simulator.

The teaching of laboratory skills to undergraduate students is central to all experimental sciences. In this setting, students must understand the experimental procedures as well as the fundamental principle(s) being demonstrated, all while learning within a limited time. Other limiting factors include access to equipment and reagents, resulting in students frequently working in pairs or small groups to complete experiments, and consequently, students gain limited experience in the practical techniques. In addition, due to competing subjects and a filled curriculum, there is typically limited
