BACKGROUND: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for large nonpedunculated colorectal polyps; however, it carries a relevant risk of adverse events (AEs), such as delayed bleeding, as well as postprocedural perforation (PPP) and postelectrocoagulation syndrome (PECS). Systematic defect closure may reduce these risks, but its preventive efficacy remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE.—: To characterize the clinical and pathologic features of this lesion, which has been under-studied in the literature.

BACKGROUND: While single-port laparoscopy for abdominal surgery is technically challenging, the Da Vinci Single-Site® robotic surgery platform may help to overcome some of the difficulties of this rapidly evolving technique. A 13-year-old female presented with recurrent, right-sided abdominal pain since the age of 2 years. Examination showed a tender, cylindric mass in the right lower quadrant. Primary rectal lymphoma in childhood is rare. We report a case in a 10-year-old boy who presented with rectal bleeding and a single rectal polyp. Histologic examination, immunophenotyping and molecular genetic study of the polyp showed a diffuse B-cell lymphoma, Burkitt-like type. The literature on this topic is reviewed and pathologic examination of childhood rectal polyps is emphasized.

Rectal tubulopapillary polyps were diagnosed in eight dogs following proctoscopy and mucosal pinch biopsy. Histological examination of the pinch biopsies revealed evidence of malignant transformation in three of the cases. The remaining cases were diagnosed as benign polyps. We report a patient with chronic nausea as the leading symptom of a primary carcinoma of the duodenum located at the flexura duodeno-jejunalis. The tumour was not reached at gastroscopy, which was performed twice. Since this area usually cannot be seen upon gastroscopy or upon small bowel enteroclysma according to Sellink, a double-contrast investigation of the upper gastrointestinal tract using a hypotonic agent should be performed when nausea persists although gastroscopy is normal.

Almost all patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) develop duodenal polyps, the severity of which is graded stage 1 (minor) to stage V (cancer). An 88 year old woman presented comatose, hypothermic and hyperglycaemic. She died soon after admission and at autopsy recent small bowel infarction was found. The superior mesenteric artery was encased in a dense pancreatic mass and there was marked luminal narrowing of the vessel. Histology revealed a pancreatic glucagonoma which had metastasized to colonic submucosa and serosa. Glucagonoma is a rare tumour and this presentation of small bowel infarction associated with pancreatic glucagonoma would appear to be a unique event.
