An overview of the term hysterical personality is presented and existing measures of this construct are described. Statistical studies of hysterical personality are then reviewed, emphasizing the extent to which they support theory, clinical observation, description, and prediction. Evidence is still needed to bolster claims of empirical validity and it remains an open question whether hysterical personality should be viewed as a legitimate concept in its own right or as a form of extraversion. Empirical data are also needed on etiological determinants, psychological correlates, and response t

The Tokyo Autistic Behavior Scale (TABS) consisting of 39 items provisionally grouped in four areas--interpersonal-social relationship, language-communication, habit-mannerism and others--is an instrument used by a child's caretaker to rate the child's autistic behaviors on a 3-point scale. Test-retest reliability was satisfactory (i.e., an r for a total score was .94). Among six DSM-III diagnostic groups, infantile autism showed a significantly higher total TABS score than the other five groups, and a taxonomic validity coefficient was .54. An r between total scores of the TABS and the Childh

The Stanford-Binet IV and the WISC--R were administered to 30 children, ages 8 to 15 yr., whose scores were in the range of mild mental retardation. The mean interval between testings was 7 mo. The correlation was .83, with a median difference of 4 points. The WISC--R mean IQ was significantly lower than the Stanford-Binet-IV Composite mean score for the group. The disparity in scores points to the need to evaluate measures of intelligence together with other indices of functioning in decision-making for mildly retarded children.

The Monospot is a spot test designed for the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis and its efficacy has been compared with that of the standard Paul-Bunnell test. Three out of 210 (1.4%) sera from normal persons and persons suffering from diseases other than infectious mononucleosis gave ;false' positive results when compared with the Paul-Bunnell test. Using 38 sera from patients with strong clinical and haematological evidence of infectious mononucleosis no false negative results were found with the Monospot test. The sera of 37 patients gave positive results with the Paul-Bunnell test: the

CONTEXT: Indian models of personality are seldom explored in relation to alcohol dependence. Triguna is an Indian model of personality originating from the Sankhya philosophy, whereby three gunas, Sattva, Rajas and Tamas describe personality features. Additionally, the trait of Non attachment which is a concept discussed extensively in Bhagavad Gita is also studied along with Triguna.
AIMS: The current study discusses these concepts and attempts to explore their relationship with personality and subjective well-being, among men with and without alcohol dependence.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A cro

BACKGROUND: Cuba's response to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic has been to conduct mass testing of the population to ascertain seroprevalence, to enforce mandatory relative quarantine of persons testing positive, and to implement educational interventions using media and school-based programs.
METHODS: Interview with the Vice-Minister of Health and review of available data.
RESULTS: Reports to date show a very low seroprevalence rate without evidence of a widespread epidemic. Sexual contact with foreign-born persons is the primary risk factor. Possible advantages of Cuba's po

OBJECTIVES: Clinicians often struggle to accurately identify patients at risk of treatment failure. Feedback-informed treatment offers real-time outcome monitoring to help detect and address potential treatment failures early. This study examined patterns of change among not-on-track (NOT) patients during feedback-informed treatment, explored how patients' characteristics related to these patterns, and assessed the feasibility of predicting them.
METHOD: Data from 573 NOT patients in a university outpatient psychotherapy clinic were analyzed. Growth mixture modeling identified distinct change

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the relationship between emotion dysregulation (ED), impulsivity, and symptom severity in emerging adults (16-25 years) diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Specifically, it sought to determine which ED dimensions differentiate BPD from non-clinical, independently of anxiety and depression, and how these relate to clinical features of BPD. Methods: A total of 184 participants (BPD = 44, non-clinical group = 140) completed standardized assessments, including the DERS (ED), UPPS-P (impulsivity), DIB-R (BPD), BDI-II (depression), and STAI-T

BACKGROUND: Emotional dysregulation is a common feature across various psychiatric disorders, including personality disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. It manifests through difficulties in emotion modulation, which can lead to impulsive behaviors, exaggerated emotional reactions, and poor management of negative emotions. Cognitive deficits, particularly those related to executive functions such as inhibition, working memory, and cognitive flexibility, play a crucial role in this process, contributing to a higher vulnerability to emotional dysregulation. This

In psychiatry, recent years have seen a change of focus from a clinician- to a patient-centered perspective that emphasizes quality of life as a treatment target. As a complex construct, quality of life is composed of multiple dimensions that interact with one-another (e.g. physical and psychological well-being, relationships, autonomy, self-esteem). Here, we used data from the REHABase cohort, which includes N = 2180 patients from 15 psychosocial rehabilitation centers in France, to explore networks of quality-of-life dimensions among six psychiatric disorders: schizophrenia, neurodevelopment

Transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 kDa (TDP-43) proteinopathy is the hallmark of limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy neuropathologic change (LATE-NC). LATE-NC is a common copathology with Alzheimer disease neuropathologic change (ADNC). Data from the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center were analyzed to compare clinical features and copathologies of autopsy-confirmed ADNC with versus without comorbid LATE-NC. A total of 735 participants with ADNC alone and 365 with ADNC with LATE-NC were included. Consistent with prior work, brains with LATE-NC had more severe ADN

Distorted maternal representations (DMRs)-mother's ideas, understanding, and feelings about the infant-shape early interaction and the emerging relationship. Distorted interactions reportedly affect infant attachment and socioemotional development and may be associated with maternal early adversity and trauma. Limited measures are available that could be used as screening tools of DMRs. The aims of this study were to (a) describe the development of the Mother-Infant Relationship Scale (MIRS) and (b) to evaluate its psychometric properties. The development and validation of the MIRS closely fol

BACKGROUND: The Health of the Nation Outcome Scales (HoNOS) is a clinician-rated instrument for the differentiated measurement of severity in patients with mental disorder. Item 8 of the instrument, assessing 'Other mental and behavioral problems', is particularly relevant for patients with affective disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating and personality disorders. However, some studies have shown that the scale possesses unsatisfactory psychometric properties. The objective of the present study was therefore to validate the psychometric properties of a more specified version of the HoNOS-D
