Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy with Single Port Access System in 15 Dogs.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcome of laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed with a single port access system (SPAS) in dogs. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. ANIMALS: Fifteen client-owned dogs with nonobstructive gallbladder disease. METHODS: Medical records were reviewed for signalment, clinical signs, diagnostic imaging, surgical findings, and outcome until suture removal. RESULTS: The SPAS was placed 1 cm caudal to the umbilicus. The procedure was completed with the SPAS alone in two cases. An additional cannula was added in 12 cases. In the last 10 cases, the additional cannula was

OBJECTIVE: To describe the palmar arthroscopic approaches to the bovine carpus and document the visible intra-articular structures in each approach. STUDY DESIGN: Ex vivo study. SAMPLE POPULATION: Thirty fresh cadaveric bovine forelimbs. METHODS: Computed tomography (CT) and gross dissection were performed on 4 carpi. Latex models were produced from 6 carpi to define the gross anatomy and arthroscopic portals to the palmar carpal pouches. Ultrasonography and arthroscopy were performed on 20 carpi to document visualization of the local anatomy. RESULTS: A single palmar pouch was present on

OBJECTIVE: To report surgical and postoperative management of complicated total cystectomy in a dog with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). STUDY DESIGN: Case report. ANIMALS: One male neutered Shetland sheepdog. METHODS: The dog was presented after a 1-month history of stranguria, unresponsive to oral antibiotic therapy. A craniodorsal bladder mass was identified by computed tomography (CT), and partial cystectomy was performed with 1-cm gross lateral margins (day 1). Results of histopathology provided evidence for a diagnosis of TCC, and the dog was treated with adjuvant mitoxantrone. The

OBJECTIVE: To measure the density of cellular phenotypes in canine caudal cruciate ligament (CaCL), cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and long digital extensor tendon (LDET). STUDY DESIGN: Ex-vivo study. METHODS: Ten CaCL, CrCL, MCL, and LDET obtained from 1 stifle of 10 dogs with no gross pathology were analyzed histologically. The density of cells with 3 nuclear phenotypes (fusiform, ovoid, and spheroid) was determined within the core region of each specimen. RESULTS: Cells with fusiform nuclei were most dense in the MCL (median [range], 319 [118-538] cel
