Detecting Conversation Topics in Recruitment Calls of African American Participants to the All of Us Research Program Using Machine Learning: Model Development and Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: Advancements in science and technology can exacerbate health disparities, particularly when there is a lack of diversity in clinical research, which limits the benefits of innovations for underrepresented communities. Programs like the All of Us Research Program (AoURP) are actively working to address this issue by ensuring that underrepresented populations are represented in biomedical research, promoting equitable participation, and advancing health outcomes for all. African American communities have been particularly underrepresented in clinical research, often due to historical

Applications of human hepatitis B virus preS domain in bio- and nanotechnology.

Human hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a member of the family Hepadnaviridae, and causes acute and chronic infections of the liver. The hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) contains the large (L), middle (M), and small (S) surface proteins. The L protein consists of the S protein, preS1, and preS2. In HBsAg, the preS domain (preS1 + preS2) plays a key role in the infection of hepatocytic cells by HBV and has several immunogenic epitopes. Based on these characteristics of preS, several preS-based diagnostic and therapeutic materials and systems have been developed. PreS1-specific monoclonal antibodies

The autoclavable semirigid thoracoscope: the way forward in pleural disease?

Medical thoracoscopy is a valuable tool in the investigation and management of pleural disease. It has considerable advantages over conventional blind pleural biopsy and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. Despite this, the practice of this technique in the UK is limited. Most operators use the rigid thoracoscope, which may be an unfamiliar instrument to respiratory physicians. A semirigid thoracoscope is available but its use has not been possible in the UK as it requires sterilisation with ethylene oxide, which is not approved in this country. The present authors describe herein their expe

Integration of role-playing into technical skills training: a randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Recently, efforts have been undertaken to enhance the face validity of technical skills training by introducing role-plays and standardised patients. Since little is known about the effects of role-playing with respect to the realism of a training situation and students' objective performance, we performed a randomized controlled trial. METHODS: 36 medical students participated in videotaped small group skills-lab sessions on the topics of Doppler sonography and gastric tube insertion. One half of the students participated in role-plays and the other half practised without role-

Expertise, experience, and excellence. Twenty years of patient involvement in health technology assessment at NICE: an evolving story.

From its inception in 1999, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) committed to including the expertise, experiences, and perspectives of lay people, patients and carers, and patient organizations in its health technology assessments (HTAs). This is our story of patient involvement in HTA: from early methods designed for use when assessing medicines, widening to address the different requirements of HTAs for interventional procedures, medical technologies, and diagnostic technologies. We also chart the evolution and development of all our patient involvement methods over
