Adjoining basal-cell carcinoma (BCC) and seborrheic keratosis (SK) are rarely reported despite the frequency of the two tumors. Unusual ulcerative changes in an SK are indications for biopsy.

Each of four antidandruff shampoos, containing zinc pyrithione, was statistically significantly more potent at blocking spontaneous contractions of rabbit isolated ileum than was any of four adult shampoos which in turn were each significantly more potent that any of four baby shampoos tested. The ileum model therefore appears to be sufficiently sensitive to distinguish between antidandruff, adult and baby shampoos. Two Tanner stage IV adolescent females with secretion of material from the areolar glands of the breast are described. This report, as well as previous case reports, indicates that the condition is benign in the presence of an otherwise unremarkable physical examination. In contrast to galactorrhea, which must be evaluated completely, areolar gland discharge appears to be a curiosity that may be as rare as the number of case reports would suggest. It appears to warrant nothing more than careful observation.

Total activities of eleven glycosidases were determined in frozen-dried tissue fragments of basal cell epithelioma, seborrhoeic keratosis and epidermis. The values found were frequently much higher than those mentioned in the literature. Most enzyme activities were higher in basal cell tumours than in the adjacent epidermis; the differences between basal cell epithelioma and seborrhoeic keratosis were significant for only two of the eleven enzymes.

Comparison of culture results with clinical impressions showed that pediatric house officers made frequent errors in diagnosing superficial fungus infections. Results of cultures on dermatophyte test medium (DTM), read by nonmycologists in the clinic, were comparably accurate with those on standard media processed in a laboratory. DTM is a useful aid in diagnosing dermatophytoses and teaching clinical mycology to pediatric residents.
