Progress in gastrointestinal endoscopy enables it to be used routinely in the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of colonic tumours. The development of a tumour, especially adenocarcinoma, at the site of anastomosis of uretero-sigmoidostomy is a particular case. Adenomatosis coli is recently regarded as a systemic disease with a predisposition to multiple tumor formation. We report siblings of familial adenomatosis coli with gastric cancers. Case 1 was a 58 year-old elder brother. His diagnosis was familial adenomatosis coli accompanied with colon cancer and simultaneous early gastric cancer. A follow-up was carried out into the study of schistosomal colonic polyposis reported in the last article. Eighteen patients with schistosomal colonic polyposis were treated with oxamniquine and their progress was evaluated for 2-3 weeks after treatment, at 3 months and at 12-24 months. Sigmoidoscopy to examine mucosa on the polyps and barium enemata to determine the size and number of polyps showed variable success, but treatment with oxamniquine produced no untoward side effects.

In order to determine surgeons' knowledge of colorectal cancer (CRC) in New Zealand, a questionnaire was sent to all general surgeons on the New Zealand Medical register. One hundred and thirty-three responses were received and 123 were analysed. 378 duodenal polyps were identified by endoscopic biopsy since 1973 in the course of more than 25,000 oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopies, corresponding to an incidence rate of 1.5%. Extracolonic manifestations are often associated with familial polyposis coli, but the cysts and osteomas may be few and inconspicuous. A light microscopy and histochemical study of 24 juvenile and 27 inflammatory polyps showed that both may derive from inflammatory processes. Oral findings on the panoramic tomograms of fifty-two patients with adenomatosis coli (AC) are presented. Osteomatous lesions, embedded teeth, and supernumerary teeth were found more frequently in AC patients than in a normal population. The osteomatous lesions were found in more than 80 percent of the AC patients, and the average number of such lesions per patient was 4.7. Following migration to Hawaii, the Japanese have acquired the same risk of developing large bowel cancer as that experienced by Caucasians. This tumor is uncommon in Japan. Other conditions are also more common in Hawaii Japanese, e.g., myocardial infarction, severe atherosclerosis, diverticulosis, and polyposis of the colon. Comparative studies in Hawaii and Japan suggest that the basis of these differences is probably related to the consumption of characteristically western foods by Hawaii Japanese.

A patient with a symptomatic duodenal polyp was found at operation to have a 4 cm diameter adenomatous polyp of the ampulla of Vater, with both the common bile duct and pancreatic duct passing through the stalk and emptying from the polyp. The polyp was excised at the base of the stalk, and the two ducts reconstructed by a double spincteroplasty technique. The postoperative course and 2 1/2 year follow-up have been uneventful.

Four members of a family with juvenile colonic polyposis in two generations were examined by the authors. The disease showed a very marked dominant mode of inheritance, not sex-linked, in this family. At the same time, the same members of the family had congenital heart disease, including atrial septal defects and pulmonary stenosis.
