INTRODUCTION: The German holistic health Kneipp concept (KC) consists of five elements: water applications, physical activity, healthy nutrition, herbs, and mind-body practices. Well-known in German-speaking countries, the program's effects in early childhood education are little known. This analysis examined the qualitative portion of the larger mixed-method Kita Kneipp Study exploring the potential and challenges of implementing Kneipp in kindergartens to promote salutogenesis and prevent illness in children through teachers' and children's experiences.
METHODS: Semi-structured Expert inter

This study examined preschoolers' selective trust in a robot versus a human informant, and whether social priming may increase trust by making the robot's social characteristics more salient, using the word-learning paradigm. Children also completed the Theory of Mind (ToM) scale, along with an adapted naïve biology task and an Attribution of Mental States questionnaire assessing their beliefs about robots. In Experiment 1, eighty-six Italian children (aged 3 and 5) observed a competent robot (NAO) correctly labeling familiar objects and an incompetent human mislabeling them. The two informant

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Obesity affects a growing proportion of reproductive-age women, yet the postpartum period remains underrecognized as an opportunity for improving long-term maternal health. Pregnancy induces metabolic, inflammatory, and behavioral changes that, combined with pre-pregnancy obesity, may predispose women to persistent postpartum weight retention, incomplete metabolic recovery, and elevated lifetime risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on the biological, behavioral, and structural determinants of postpartum health

PURPOSE: Oral narrative abilities are essential for social participation, academic success, and the development of literacy. While children with Down syndrome (DS) often show relative strengths in narrative macrostructure, little is known about how these skills develop over time and how they respond to targeted intervention, particularly in Spanish-speaking contexts.
METHOD: This cross-case study explored macrostructural narrative development in four Chilean children with DS aged 8-12 years over a 6-month period and evaluated the effects of a brief one-on-one narrative intervention. Participa

BACKGROUND: During the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States in 2020, hospital systems faced significant challenges, including high patient demand, a lack of resources, and the rapidly evolving safety mandates that necessitated new clinical protocols. However, the perceptions of healthcare workers regarding the effectiveness of their departments and management approaches have not been well described.
METHODS: Thirty semistructured interviews were conducted with healthcare workers in a single clinical department at a pediatric tertiary care hospital in October 2020, 6 months a

BACKGROUND: Self-compassion has emerged as a protective psychological factor that supports mental health and adaptive lifestyle behaviours. Recent research suggests that the fulfilment of basic psychological needs-autonomy, competence, and relatedness-may mediate the effects of self-compassion on behavioural health outcomes such as sleep and social connectedness.
PURPOSE: This study examined whether basic psychological needs mediate the associations between self-compassion and two lifestyle-related outcomes: insomnia and loneliness, among Japanese adults.
METHODS: A cross-sectional online su

Although eating disorders (EDs) affect individuals of all races and ethnicities, racially/ethnically minoritized individuals are less likely to receive ED treatment than White individuals. The present study aimed to compare ED treatment experiences in a sample of racially/ethnically minoritized individuals vs. White participants. As a secondary aim, we explored how acculturation and mental health stigma factors were associated with treatment experiences. We recruited 41 White and 27 racially/ethnically minoritized individuals with a history of EDs (with all racially/ethnically minoritized indi

Cognitive frailty is considered a clinical entity associated with a high risk for adverse health outcomes. However, its clinical significance remains poorly understood. This study investigated the association between cognitive frailty and risk for functional disability among community-dwelling older adults. In total, 1,597 Japanese adults aged ≥ 65 years that were free of dementia and functional disability at baseline were prospectively followed for 10 years. Cognitive frailty was defined as the presence of both physical frailty (using Cardiovascular Health Study criteria) and cognitive impair

BACKGROUND: Patients experiencing alcohol withdrawal often receive care on inpatient mental health units. Registered nurses on one such unit had several concerns and questions about the existing alcohol withdrawal symptom management order set. To address these issues, a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychiatrists, and pharmacists was formed.
OBJECTIVES: The aims for this project were to review and revise the existing order set, educate staff, implement the changes, and evaluate outcomes.
METHODS: The Plan-Do-Study-Act quality improvement framework guided the project. Five phases w

Bullying has reached epidemic proportions, affecting one in three students worldwide. A pervasive issue that carries profound physical, mental, and social consequences, significantly increasing the risk of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicidal behaviors among those who experience this type of harassment and hazing. While physicians and most caregivers are fully aware and competent in identifying signs of self-harming behavior such as scratching, cutting, or burning the skin, oral self-injury is often overlooked as a potential indicator and is associated with unintentional soft tissue bi

As an essential primary hormone, thyroid hormone (TH) is indispensable for human growth, development and metabolism. Impairment of TH function in several aspects, including TH synthesis, activation, transportation and receptor-dependent transactivation, can eventually lead to thyroid hormone resistance syndrome (RTH). RTH is a rare syndrome that manifests as a reduced target cell response to TH signaling. The majority of RTH cases are related to thyroid hormone receptor β (TRβ) mutations, and only a few RTH cases are associated with thyroid hormone receptor α (TRα) mutations or other causes. P

AIMS: Current cardiac telerehabilitation (CTR) interventions are insufficiently tailored to the preferences and competences of individual patients, which raises the question whether their implementation will increase overall participation and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation (CR). However, research on patient-specific factors that influence participation and adoption of CTR interventions is scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate which patient-related characteristics influence participation in a novel CTR intervention in patients with coronary artery disease.

PURPOSE: Living with late effects can affect young childhood cancer survivors' (CCSs) self-management (SM) abilities. In this study, we explored different approaches to SM of everyday life by young CCS.
METHODS: This is a sub-study of a larger study on Physical Activity among Childhood Cancer Survivors (the PACCS study). We conducted individual interviews with 22 CCS aged 9 to 18 years who were at least 1 year off-treatment. An hybrid inductive-decductive thematic analysis was used.
RESULTS: Three main themes were identified: (1) managing everyday life with fatigue, (2) building self-managem

This study describes a sample of HIV+ young transgender women of color aged 18-24 and their experience with homelessness as part of a demonstration project of engagement and retention in HIV medical care funded by Health Resources and Services Administration. The study engaged transgender women of color in HIV care in nine sites across the US between 2012 and 2017. This analysis describes and compares transwomen who had been homeless in the last 6 months to those not homeless. We hypothesized that homelessness would compete with HIV care, food, shelter, and be associated with poverty. Variable

Maternal gestational inflammation from infection, obesity, depression, and adverse childhood experiences negatively affects offspring cognitive development. Choline is a key nutrient in fetal brain development. We investigated whether higher maternal plasma choline concentrations have a positive association with offspring cognition, specifically processing speed, in the presence of inflammation. Forty-eight children were evaluated at 4 years of age. Processing Speed Composite Score on the Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scales of Intelligence was the principal outcome. Maternal C-reactive protein
