UNLABELLED: A 15-month-old African-American boy receiving chemotherapy for Wilms tumour was diagnosed to have a fracture of left femur at the emergency department (ED) of our hospital. A month earlier, the patient had been seen at the same ED for a fracture of right femur. The skeletal survey this time also showed an old posterior rib fracture. Child abuse was suspected. Alveolar bone distraction is a technique used to restore vertical defects in the edentulous alveolar ridge. The gradual growth of bone tissue has a predictable result, allowing the placement of an osseointegrated implant in an ideal position. In this study, the effectiveness of the alveolar distraction technique was verified, using an extraosseous device. The bone augmentation average was 9.5 mm in 40 patients, showing a 92.5% success rate.

Hyperplastic callus formation is a noteworthy condition in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta because it often mimicks osteosarcoma on radiography. The findings of CT and MRI in hyperplastic callus formation have not been reported. In the presented case, MRI demonstrated contrast enhancement and edema of the surrounding soft tisssue, consistent with benign as well as malignant disease. Computed tomography showed a calcified rim of the lesion which may be a useful feature to rule out osteosarcoma in this condition.
