Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection, which is still a major public health concern worldwide. Common clinical findings are usually nonspecific involving fever, arthralgia, myalgia, weakness and malaise. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the seroprevalence of brucellosis in agricultural workers.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted between 1996 and 1997 at Unidad de Salud Laboral del Centro de Salud Pública (CSP) in Castellón, España (Public Health Center Occupational Health Unit), among 482 subjects applying for certification to handle pesticides for agricultural use. Forty-five percent of young adults who ate roast wild pig at a barbecue in Hawaii experienced an illness compatible with trichinosis. Eosinophilia was present in all of those who were ill and in none who remained well. There were no positive results in skin tests with commercial skin-test antigen. OBJECTIVES: Serologic testing is a useful adjunct for the diagnosis of Lyme disease, a major public health problem in certain US regions. We aimed to determine whether Lyme disease serologic testing and results differed by sex and age group.
METHODS: We identified 2 cohorts of individuals across all ages who underwent serologic testing for Lyme disease at a national reference laboratory in 2019 (cohort 1) and 2022 (cohort 2).
